ITU legal aerobars

Hey, can most normal cheap clipons be jammed in all the way to use for draftlegal races? What very cheap aerobars are recommended, or what have any of you regularly seen coming up on ebay, used, for cheap, that I could make work for ITU races?

On another note, what frames do you guys recommend that I could pick up, maybe used, rather cheaply. What nice frames are cheap, preferably something like used giants or fujis?

BTW, these stuff is all for some friends on the team, here in the DR, who pretty much rely on me to get them stuff from US since I’m the most computer savvy and connected (after living in US)…

THnx

I like the VisionTech mini clip-ons, they’re ITU legal and very well-built, I have a pair on my road bike.

Nashbar has an alu frame with carbon seatstays which looks good, compact geometry, under $300 I think.

Either the Vision shorties or the profile jammers would be my suggestion.

I’ll have a Javelin Sebino with one season of riding with Campy Centaur components on it for sale soon. I’ll post it to the classifieds or you can PM me.

I do mostly ITU racing and was using the Profile carbon Jammers. I bought the carbon Vision Tech R-Bends and cut them to the legal length. The Vision minis are very uncomfortable, but if you are doing ITU races the aerobars need to be bridged.

Syntace also makes an ITU Bridged clip-on that is comfortable and light

Trust
.

you can pretty much make any clip on aerobar ITU legal if you cut them, and bridge them.

There are a number of ITU specific shorter aero bars. I use Profile Jammer GT’s on my road bike. Very cheap second hand on ebay.

Fuji and Giant both make excellent frames. I used to own an aluminium Giant TCR and loved it. Very fast bike. All kinds on ebay. Fuji makes the Fuji Team versions which are also a heck of a bargain second hand.

i think almost all the ‘draft legal’ aerobars out there are too heavy for the purpose they’re supposed to accomplish. for my money, the way forward is the cinelli spinacci. it’s way more adjustable than anything else, and at 195g it pisses all over the competition. it’s all i ride for DL and often for regular non-draft, too.

Hi,

If you need shortys with some significant stack heightand longer range comfort… I would go Syntace.

If you want , and or need a lower stack and can deal with a more spartan level of support…go FSA/VT

take care

To be ITU legal, your bars have to be behind the most forward part of your brakes/shifters. So any bar you can get short enough will be legal. I use the Deda carbon clip-on with Cinelli (sp?) wrap-around, velcro fastening armpads. Pretty light and this set-up has the advantage of being able to be adjusted outward for non-drafting races.

Hahaha! thanks mike… no-one else recomends them… I second this…
I’ve done the same thing, except I got a pair of profile arm rests (just the plastic/padding part) and took some aluminium, bent it to go around the bar, and bolted the real arm rests onto it… its alot more comfortable than the standard cinelli pads… i’ll try and get pictures! And its much much lighter than the profile verson

Thanks everyone, I’ll try to pick up a set for my buddy. The giant and fuji frames are actually pretty well priced used on ebay… Can something like some oval concepts A910 or t2+'s be shoved in to be ITU legal, but still leave the option to go out???

I have the Oval A910s and yes, they can be adjusted forward and aft to meet the length guidelines. I haven’t found a decent way to bridge them yet, but then again, I’ve never done an ITU or DL race (smile).

Respectfully, Flo

all i ever do to ‘bridge’ my bars is use electrician’s tape to wrap the ends together. that’s what lots of the guys out there are doing. it’s legal, it’s cheap, it’s simple and it’s light.

Thanks Mike. I was thinking about going that route. I e-mailed Oval Concepts to inquire if they are going to make a bridge, but I haven’t heard back from them yet.

I find the VT horrifically uncomfortable for extended periods in the aerobars. If you are running a short ITU circut with only a few minutes in the aerobars they are adequate, but not as comfy to me as the Profile Jammer, CGT, or shortened T2s.

This is a project I’m currently working on and insight for preferences from the gallery would be helpful.

They’re not designed for extended periods in the aerobars
