ITU bike set-up/Cervelo R3

with Zipp 404 Clydesdale wheels, is this…

1-Legal?

2-A good bike to setup for ITU/ASAT legal? I want it like a RAAM bike, or climber too as I live in the Mtns.
A TT/Tri bike is just to limited for my needs; thus why I wanna go ITU styled.

Any thoughts appreciated

An S3 will always be faster.

  1. Yes.

  2. Have a look at what the ITU boys are riding for shorty tri bars and take a pair you like. Don’t forget Simon Whitfield chooses to ride a carbon soloist,

so it’s a solid choice for that style of racing (assumin it fits well, but if the R3 fits you so will the S series). Just promise to post pictures when you have it.

I would go for an S2 (an S3 would cost much more than the R3) and the same wheels. You state Clyde’s 404s and yet you want it for climbing? Are you like UKGearMuncher in that you put out massive wattage but are just a large, very lean MF? I’m not clear why you would want a climbing bike but with clyde’s wheels otherwise.

SQW used a R3 at the Hy-Vee ITU event several weeks ago>

.

yep and was back on S2 2009 with electronic shifting wednesday when we rode in the afternoon… he is such a bike slut!

.

Very true but I doubt the OP has the option of buying both bikes and IMHO the S2/3 is a better option for ITU of the two (aero and light as opposed to light).

Jonnyo, which pro shorties is that on Simon’s S2? I can’t find any pictures that show the arm pads.
