Maybe I missed a similar post, but something interesting from Lance’s annoucement of the Team Radio Shack "
Lance Armstrong is teaming up with RadioShack to form a new Tour de France cycling team next year, and it appears that the electronics retail chain may even sponsor the seven-time tour winner in other events outside of cycling.
“Beginning in 2010, Lance Armstrong will compete for Team RadioShack as a cyclist, runner and **triathlete **in events around the world, including the 2010 Tour de France,” said a statement posted at the Web site of Armstrong’s foundation.
if you hold a pro card at another sport, like swimming, cycling, or running, then I believe, if I remember correctly that you can apply for a pro card in triathlon and/or duathlon.
Why is there an obsession with Lance competiting in triathlon? It’s not like only elite athletes “participate” in triathlon. Have you seen the fatties that struggle through a triathlon event lately?
I’m not being facetious, but why would being bumped by Lance be a good thing? If one works hard and earns a spot legitimately after much sacrifice and cost, why should preferential treatment be given to another?
preferential treatment…huh? I think you missed my point. the whole point of my post was will he race AGer or pro…
sorry, if Lance can legally race as an AGer and choses to, how is that preferential treatment?
I’m sure if he races AG, it will actually be an advantge for those seeking Kona slots. As it will surely be publized as to where he is racing, maybe all the 35-39 AGers seeking a slot will go elsewhere…
It’s not preferential if somebody is just faster than you. Although I’d still say that the classy thing would be to take your lumps with the pros.
Now this is a different situation altogether–if he qualifies, no big deal. Giving an extra celebrity slot is no big deal either. Taking an existing slot from a qualifier would be a big deal…I may have misread the intent of the post above.
my bad…should have been more clear.
my point was, M-35-39 standings:
lance
2 bob
3 joe
4 mike
5 sam
6 me or you…
5 people get slots in 35-39…lance races as a pro, you would have gotten a slot.
Did anyone care when Jeff conine raced in kona? Were you guys bitching that he stole your kona slot? I’m guessing not. Who cares if lance races kona or not, I’m guessing he doesn’t care either.

why does #6 deserve a spot any more than lance? i think we can certainly all agree lance has worked way harder for the slot than any of us have. the sense of entitlement prevalent today is pathetic.
I can’t believe this thread has gone on as long as it has.
Lance is going to take anyone’s spot, if Lance wants to go, Lance will get a spot. It will be the Lance spot, no one else’s, and his position won’t remove anyone from the race. They’ll simply add one more participant to the participant total, it’s not like there is a fixed number of participants, it’s their race, they’ll do what they want with it.
They could give Blanket Jackson a spot if they want.
