I’m going to itlay/tuscany this summer and would prefer to rent a bike rather than haul my bike and 2 others over. does anyone know if there are quality roadbike rental to be had?
I saw some guys on really nice rental road bikes near Sienna last summer. They said they rented them near florence. I think the name was euro-bike or something really original like that. Google it. I spent all 3 weeks there wishing I had my road bike with me. The roads are awesome for riding. It was 95-105 F every day we were there in July so plan on riding early. If you don’t have a place yet, I know of a nice house with a pool for 75-100Euro a day/depending on the number of people in chianti.
I rented a nice basso road bike for around $30 a day in florence. Think the company was called florence by bike, or italy by bike but can’t remember. It’s only a few blocks away from the train station in florence. Think you walk out of the station facing the river, walk like four blocks to the left and you are there. found it on a websearch. the bike I rented was a nice aluminum frame with midrange campy, a carbon fork and horrible spd mtbike pedals. Take your own pedals, shoes and helmet and you’ll be all set. I had a blast riding around.
We rented ours from Florence by Bike. They were Campy triple Specalized bikes,I think. There was a Sienna by Bike but we couldn’t find it. We also rented a trunk rack for a few bucks to haul them around. Florence is a pain to drive in so watch your times.
Tuscany is nothing but hills so the triples are nice. We liked the Bianca Strada or white roads that were sometimes ancient cart paths or pretty nice logging type roads. They do have some steeps in the Strada Bianca as well as the pave. Bike shops are few and far between to buy or take enough supplies for minor repairs and adjustments. G
