Early this year I sent a bike from my home to central Illinois so I would have one there when visiting my wife’s family. I looked into the shipping costs, and was on the verge of scrapping the idea, or just having some one there facilitate a CL buy for me.
Anyway, FedEx wanted $128 to ship out the bike in a standard bike-shop box. 40 lbs with some gear stuffed in there (helmet, spare tubes, frame pump, tools), insured for the $250 value (it’s an old Specialized Sirrus that I bought off CL). Bikeflights.com wanted $76 for the same package, same insurance, shipped to my mother-in-law’s T-shirt shop.
And get this – it goes via FedEx.
I don’t know where the $50 discount comes from, but it got there in the standard 10 business days, no problems.
