Hello…
I wanted to see if any one has had any issues with their Felt wheelsets. I’ve had my 08 S22 for 1 year now and I was out today for a quick 20 miles and heard some popping from the front wheel when I was out of the saddle. I thought it might be a loose spoke. Anyways I stopped at a bike shop and he took 2 seconds and said the hub was bad that it was a sealed steel bearing and it was shot. The popping sound was just the side to side play in the hub. This isn’t good ride? Safe to ride?? Should a hub go bad after 1100 miles? Is this normal wear and tear or a warranty issue? The shop guy seemed to think it was a warranty issue.
I’d love to know what direction I should go in. Thanks!
Jon
This happened to my friend a few weeks ago to. Exactly one year after buying her Felt bike with those wheels the hub broke and she had to get a new one. Seems like these wheels are garbage because I know she didn’t abuse them and they broke during an easy ride just like you. I believe she had around 900 miles on them.
As far as what you should do, if its really worth it contact the store you got them from and see if they will replace it, or maybe even contact Felt. Wheels should definitely last more then 1000 miles.
Any other Felt owners out there have a similar story?
new bearings are like $20. pop those in and you should be good to go.

Thanks! I think that is my best bet! I had no clue they went out so quick.
I depends on the bearings. Not all are equal. I have some with probably 20K miles with no issues, others have lasted maybe a few thousand.
Just curious, when you had the bike in the shop and they told you the bearing was bad what was their solution? I’m surprised they didn’t fix it or at least offer too.

I actually ended up going to 4 shops.
First one, during the ride said it was the hub and a warranty thing and to take it to where I bought it.
Second shop, Felt Dealer, didn’t even really know the wheel, said the hub was fine and it was the bearings. He said he would repack the bearings…but its a sealed bearing.
Third shop, said it was just the bearings and just to replace them.
Fourth shop, Felt Dealer, took the time to really explain what was going on. Didn’t think the popping sound was the wheel. Took the bike in later and he did a once over, said the bearings do have a pit, but things the noise was something else. Snugged it all up and said to come back if it still makes the noise then we know its the bearing. Went on to say sealed bearings will last and that I could ride on these for a while or pay $20ish to have new bearings put on. He was the most informative yet and helpful.
Result, I’ll ride and see if it pops again, then its the wheel.
