Is this the last proper bicycle?

With all of the new, heavily shaped, sloping, curved, bulged, carbon wunderframes, is Colnago the only major manufacturer making a nicely proportioned frame with good solid round tubes, external headset, and standard components out of modern materials.

Yes, I’m sort of a retrogrouch, in that a bike should look a certain way. But this is what a bicycle should look like. If you disagree with me, fine, but just be aware that you are wrong.

There is something nice about a traditional geometry smaller tubed road bike. These newer bikes with the great big fat tubes are fugly IMO.

I belive that you will still find that Litespeed, Moots, Seven, Paketa, Lynsky, and may other large ‘boutique’ American shops have predominantly round tubed (semi shaped) bikes that are available in traditional geometry with external HS and also available in custom geometry for a few more bucks than stock.

Also a bonus is that most of the listed bikes are made of Ti, but that is just me.

Yeah, I know about those, but pointing those out takes away from the point I’m trying to make. Now you’re bringing facts into the argument, which is always a bad thing.

So I suppose you still use a crank car, phonograph and lanterns in your house?
It’s called advancement, get use to it.

“It’s called advancement”

Actuallly, isn’t it called marketing?

Better analogy is that I use a the same alarm clock as I did 10 years ago. It still wakes me up in the morning in the exact same way. I don’t feel a need to replace my electric light fixtures with “new and improved” fixtures.

Go buy a steel bike, make it a fixie and ride along in the mnts mumbling to yourself.

Yep, and don’t forget Serotta, Ridley, Felt and Blue.

Ridley??? They started the move to these weird forks with different bearing sizes. They are as bad as Trek, Giant and Cervelo when it comes to funky shapes.

Colnago really does have great paint.

I think they should look like a Cervelo Soloist or P3C…

If thats wrong I don’t want to be right =)

** they should look like a Cervelo Soloist or P3C.**

Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh. You are soooo wrong there.

I’d throw the Look 585 in there too. It was ridden on Tour last year and is simply amazing. I’ve had one for over a year and would not give it up for the world…

I like the Look frame, esp with the standard seatpost.

No, it’s called HOOOEY…

These latest frames from your McDonalds, (TREK=POS), bikes prove that their new “technology” is not lighter, does not ride better, and it certainly makes one LOOK like everybody else… “Go to the freezer, take out pizza dough, put in microwave”

???

What does that have to do with Colnago carbon bikes? One of the best bikes ever made. And certainly much better than the latest TREK POS…

I think that you have to qualify that a little bit since tri and TT bikes have gone crazy with their designs for some time. It definitely is the last proper road bike. I have thought about getting a Master Light just to fool around with. First bike I every had was a steel Bianchi (about 12 years ago) and I think that despite its weight (at least 23 pounds with Campy Mirage), it road better than any other bike that I have owned.

Should the forks not be slightly curved on the Colnago to minimise the effect of bounciness of the road on the cyclist’s grip?

I see, so all the old school bikes are all unique somehow?
