Is this finally the year? (Kona discussion)

Is this finally the year we have all the top pros healthy for Kona?
1 Frodo
2 Patrick
3 Cody
4 Russell
5 O’Donnell
6 Hanson

Is a Brownlee racing? Not sure where to put him.

not to mention this could be the best year for the women’s race in a while as well.

You left out Kienle and Lionel Slowtwitch

Unfortunately as much as I like Sebastian I think he’s starting his down slide.

And I didn’t know the other guy was worth mentioning. He’s kind of like the Tony Romo or Jay Cutler of triathlon. Everyone says this will be the year but it won’t be. And he will just revert back to being his normal self and then talk about all the lessons he’s learned.

Very heavily biased towards USA it seems. Some on this list are not like the others. You forget McNamee, Aernouts, Currie, Wurf? I’d put all of them ahead of some on this list.

You probably make some very good points.it was not intentional merely a lack of knowledge about those guys and how good they are.

No this is NOT the year. And it probably won’t ever be. Someone will always show up completely overtrained and injured. Happens every year. You just won’t know it until they drop out of the race.

Yeah unfortunately I think we can’t say anything for sure until after Nice. And even then who knows. Ben Hoffman dropped out within what, 2 weeks? for Kona last year.

Ahhh so THAT’S what LS stands for
.

Would be cool to see Matt duke it out with Lange on the run. Hanson is the only one who could really challenge him. If Matt’s in the game off the bike then it’s on.

Um, I believe Frodo can more than hang with Lange. Have you forgotten about 70.3 worlds last year.

McNamee is usually under the radar and delivers in Kona. I like the guy. 3rd place two years in a row is pretty awesome.

With car to bike crashes like Carfrae, Don, if the athletes are even one day out–something or anything can happen so let’s not count the chickens before they’re hatched. Frodo pulling out just after 70.3 Worlds…these guys and gals have a lot of hours of racing and training before they are in the clear.

Well you can strikeout all the American males. They will struggle to beat Ryf.

Jay Cutler had his year back in 2006 when he took the Mr. Olympia title from Ronnie Coleman…

But you may be talking about a different Jay Cutler.

Bears quarterback

Terenzo has been very quiet.

He was definitely on a trajectory before his accident.

That list leaves out some major contenders. I think Russell is a nice guy and a great competitor, but you guys are crazy to think he’s even one of the top runners in the sport. I definitely don’t think Russell has ever even run in the 2:40’s in Kona. I’m not even sure Russell has ever run low 2:40’s outside Kona, so it seems pretty crazy to consider him as someone to challenge Lange on the run.

The list is missing:

Currie (2:38 marathon on the books)
Brownlee (Not wise to doubt his running pedigree)
Nilson (Several low 2:40 Ironman runs on the books)
Wurf (Not a great runner, but that bike can damage run times)
Sanders (2nd only 2 years ago)
McNamee (3rd place two years in a row off 2:45-2:46ish runs)
Aernouts (2nd place last year and has a killer closing run)
Hoffman (Has 2:40’s on the books and his IM South Africa was a masterful performance)

There’s a lot of people with much more pedigree and past than several people listed on the original list.

After listening to Wurf’s interview on tower26, I think he is going to def be on the up and up. I just don’t think its this year. I think he will still have to try to come into T2 with a lead to compensate for his run, but he get passed like last year.

If he gets passed it’s going to be late.

That’s what will make this a good discussion.
