So what’s the difference? I was reading both boxes and it didn’t seem like much of a diff? Is whole wheat pasta marketing hype?
The Glycemic index is reported to be around 37 for whole wheat spaghetti, and 38 for white spaghetti.
Not much of a difference GI-wise.
Have you ever tried whole wheat pasta? I just can’t get past the gritty texture and the bitter after taste. Bleh
That’s kinda my point… The wife insists on it, Barrilla isn’t that bad but I don’t care for it especially if it isn’t worth it.
What’s the difference in fiber between the two?
A little more fiber, maybe?
Our kids won’t eat it, although if my wife could figure how to get them to eat it she’d buy it. For now I hide behind my kids. “Yes dear, I did love your whole wheat pasta dish, but the kids won’t eat it, so perhaps we should just get the regular stuff for a while.”

Nice article. I would have liked to see regular pasta compared to the others in that table on the first page.
That’s kind of funny to me. I have tried to like the ww pasta, and just don’t, although I love brown rice and whole wheat bread. However, recently I gave it another try in baked mostaccioli (sp?), and it was good. It’s very important to NOT overcook ww pasta. And the kids ate it too.
- Agreed.
Some good and easy accessible info on the subject here as well: http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/carbohydrates.html
Here in Denmark most health minded people eat whole grain pasta. The main arguments:
Almost 3 times as much dietary fiber and 2-4 times as much of any relevant vitamine and mineral. Dealing fulltime with nutrition I can´t find any reason NOT to choose whole grain pasta everytime. And even my 5 year old son does not find it untasty.
Best regards

You must be thinking of brown rice vs. white.
I have to agree with Kreutzer’s points - more fiber, more minerals. I actually like the whole wheat pasta the best - I guess it is a matter of taste as anything else.
