I just got the new TR50s, like them a lot. Seem to be very well designed, good ventilation (maybe not as much of a pure race shoe as the Tri-Vent but a better everyday shoe in my opinion).
Anyway, it has a big single strap, works well. The last inch or inch and a half looks like it is almost designed to be trimmed. Every 1/4 inch or so there is a strip where the rubber is considerably thinner and there is a seam on both sides so it appears as though you could trim a few of these 1/4 inch areas off and not worry about fraying.
I know people are going to say it’s going to fray, but people who have access to the shoe in person, take a close look and see if you can see what I am getting at. If it is designed that way it seems like pretty smart thinking for people with narrower feet to be able to trim some of the excess strap. If it wasn’t designed this way, maybe they stumbled on a good idea.
this may or may not make you feel better, but i trimmed mine on both the tr01s and the tr02s. the strap looks to be the same. ribbed and angled for a couple inches
I don’t think they actually advertise it anywhere, but I had heard it mentioned coming from the trade shows or descriptions from the vendors, something like that.
Besides, they are your shoes, do what you want. I used to have a pair of shimano “tri” shoes I made by cutting the middle strap off a pair of 3 strap road shoes (before the TR-01s were released).
