Besides, I highly doubt that having wheels under 1kg was necessary for them to build up an R5CA under the UCI weight limit. People do it all the time with frames and wheels that weigh more than those options
Of course it isn’t necessary for an unsponsered rider, but in the real world where Ryder actually won the race, using the best choices amongst sponsered equipment is what they are left with. Perhaps next year they will decide to dump their sponserships and race with equipment they purchase. That way they don’t have to worry about being criticised for how they win a Grand Tour ST.
