Is the Full Rocket Science SwimSkin legal for Kona Ironman 2009?

Hello All,

Sleeveless version is okay for Kona. Full sleeve okay for all other IM races.

Thanks.

Why isn’t the full skin version legal for Kona?

Hello DerBoeseKoenig and All,

Please call the phone number on the message above for more detailed info …

The good news is that the sleeveless model skinsuit costs $100 less.

How difficult is it to quantify the drag savings shaving my arms and shoulders?

Or maybe this is a commercial opportunity for a smear on ‘nano’ lotion or grease that reduces drag. (and perhaps eliminates the need for a suit)

Cheers,

Neal

Neal, this is interesting. I wonder if they are worried about overheating?

I sent you a PM.

I can’t imagine anyone caring about any race other than Kona, as you’ll never be disallowed from wearing a wetsuit at any IMNA event.

Ever.

Hello All,

Another reply to question; although as noted subject to change when the handbook is released.

I was curious since FINA is getting more restrictive.

Subject: Kona swim suits
Neal,
At this time, the sleeveless Rocket Science suit is legal for Kona and you may wear your bike shorts underneath.
However, please refer to the 2009 Ironman World Championships Athlete Information Guide (which has not been published yet) for official race day rules.
Sincerely,

There is a rule that states for KONA imposed by WTC (World Triathlon Corporation) which has a subset of its own rules in addtion to the USAT ones that the shoulders of the athelte have to be exposed for the purpuse of body makring.

There are many races where the water temprature does not allow wearign a wetsuit and in those races you can wear the full sleeve rocket SKIN. The only traithlon race at this tiem that does not allow the usage of the full sleeve swim skins in the IM KONA.
