Is soda bad for you?

Is there any truth to the claim that soda is bad for you? Obviously, it’s empty calories, and high fructose corn syrup is just something that cannot be good for you. Other than those two items, what’s your opinion? What’s your opinion about diet soda? Aspartame? For some reason, I’ve been quite troubled about this for the last little while.

Most recent studies have backed away from saying it is bad for you as its basis for sugar is refined corn. Yet, they are cautioning that it provides no benefit and actually displaces drinks that have benefit. Basically, they are saying kids are drinking soda and getting no benefit, when they need to be drinking milk to develop their bones, etc. Since 99% of bone growth occurs in the first 20 years of life, they site the displacement as the most significant concern over the consumption of soda.

I go with yes its bad for you.

Haven’t seen any studies but have been old that the carbonation may leach calcium from the bones by changing blood PH or something like that.

My dentist say the carbonation eats your teeth and can tell if anyone in the family has been drinking the stuff or not.

So yes any “Soda” diet or otherwise is not so good from my nderstanding due to the carbonation.

Yes it is “bad” for you on several levels. High sugar levels contribute to spiking and crashing throughout the day. I have been told that the corbonation is bad in several ways (although I’m not sure if all opinions are true on this). The worst thing about it is that the caffeine will dehydrate you (and I think addict you).

That leaves the question of “what about diet caffeine free?” - Honestly what are you drinking this for?

Just one man’s opinion but I feel much better when I just drink water, juice, or milk.

I also agree it is bad for you. It is the phosphoric acid that is in most soda’s that causes the calcium to be robbed from bones. Phosphoric acid is a major component in most of the “dark” soda’s. i.e, pepsi, coke, etc. It is not in sprite, 7-up, or Rite soda.

So sparkling water is bad for you???

To drink soda in place of other things such as milk, juices, etc., most certainly is bad for you. However, to drink soda for a source of simple sugars and some liquid replenishment, it works GREAT!! I will often down a can of Coke (‘flat’ preferably) if I feel a bonk coming on.

no debate about soda being bad. But let’s not forget that factory farmed cow’s milk given to humans has some very major downsides as well.

such as?

about milk:

here is a short list of the problems (pcrm is the physicians comm. for responsible medicine)–

Yes don’t drink it it will kill you, in fact I recommend drinking only 10W-30 when it’s warm and 5W-30 when it’s cold…

Apparently it’s the Phosporic acid, not the carbonation.

i think moderation is the key. whether it’s soda or whatever. you just have to decide what is moderate for you. if that means no soft drinks, then so be it.

i’ve gone from having 3-6 per day, for many years, to 1 per day. it’s hard to break that morning need for caffeine and sugar. if i deem it necessary to give up that 1 in the future i will.

until then, you anti-soda-ites leave me be.

No, but corn syrup certainly has a few drawbacks.
