Is Lance really riding with a helmet visor?

Apologies if that has been posted before.
Lance never had any idea what a pro cyclist should look like. XL watches, long socks, pants too long - he just doesn’t ‘get’ it.
So, is this a visor on his helmet aka ‘MTB style’ or am I missing something?

After all, it’s February, rant month!

Helps in the rain?

#4 in the standings with this deep of a field in frickin’ February. The dude has nothing left to prove to anyone.

OK, sure it looks dorky as shit, but honestly, I use a cheap (i.e., fewer vents) MTB-marketed helmet for my commuter and one of the reasons I like it for that is the visor helps keep rain out of my face. Guess I’m a semi-dork, too, although I wouldn’t race w/ it.

Yes, and there was a discussion by Phil and Bob about this if you watched Versus coverage. Not quite sure how I feel about it

Just for the rain. I think it’s better than the bike hat under the helmet. That looks just as goofy.

Ummm…when you’re riding in a pack in the rain, it’s fairly helpful to have either a helmet visor like that or an old style cycling cap brim (cap under helmet) to block the tire spray from the rider in front of you from hitting you square in the eyes…

Trust me…it works pretty well.

Agree with M~,
Try slipping one of the old-school cycling caps, peak forward, under your helmet next time you are in rain. Keeps a good deal of spray out of your eyes or off your glasses. A very effective crusty-old-man trick.

Not sure if helmet visor is as effective, but I imagine better than without.
Smelly

Exactly my point - why doesn’t he use a cycling cap?
He’ll never be respected by the Euro cyclists. And we all know that deep inside he does care about that.

He also used one during stage 12 of the 2004 Tour de France.

Only visor related - not really “Lance’s visor” related…

On Saturday I was sitting in the pack during the road portion at Valley of the Sun stage race in Phoenix - we’re going up this hill ~2mi long, ~4% grade - it was the deciding factor for pretty much 80% of the field. We’re rolling super easy on our first lap with the whole group together and this one guy launches up the shoulder on a solo break. You could feel the whole pack make the same assessment of the guy in an instant- it was as if everyone looked him and thought: Discover jersey and a helmet visor - no need to respond. He was back in the group 4 minutes later.

Love your work.

Either that, or the Euro cyclists will start to respect helmets with visors.

And the pope will convert!

I just *adore *the fact that a bunch of triathletes are sitting around discussing how lance looks like a dork…

Not all of us are triathletes.

dang, you were at valley of the sun? i was too.

Maybe he heard you. The pic on SI here, shows road helmet and cap. Wonder if he had to switch after crash…
