"if lance was a triathlete he’d win hawaii by heaps "
I tend to think so also. It’s every trigeek’s fantasy to see Lance win his 6th TDF and then do IM Hawaii the next year. He might get his 6th TDF but it’s highly unlikely that he’d bother with Hawaii.
Well, we’ll find out in a few weeks. He might not do it but if I was a betting man, I wouldn’t bet against him although it will be his toughest race. Should be one hell of a 101st TDF.
I’m one of the ones who’d love to see Lance in Hawaii. But, really do you think it’d be that easy? He often credits his success in the tour to the fact that cancer ‘reshaped’ his body. He was big and bulky (I assume from the swimming/tri days), and after cancer he was the skinny Lance we know today. Do you really think he could just jump in the pool for a couple of months and swim 50 minute IM splits as some people have suggested. I think it would be a lot tougher for him than that (but I have no doubt he could do it, especially with all the best coaches around him:) ).
I think the running part would be pretty easy. I’d guess he could do a 25mph IM split and come out of T2 as fresh as when he got on the bike. I think that would be his big advantage over guys like Bjorn, Larsen, etc. They are monsters on the bike, but it does wear them out. I think Lance would come out of T2 a lot fresher.
Either way, it would sure be fun to see it happen!
Lance isn’t that small, 5’10" 165 lbs makes him VERY large for cycling and slightly large for triathlon.
I think Lance is the type of person (at this point in his career) that if he was to do Kona that he would fair extremely well, but why do triathlons when cycling pays so much? Plus he’s a given to be a sports announcer. The only way I see Lance doing Kona is as a large publicity event to raise money and awareness for cancer.
as a swimmer (lance was a swimmer before triathelte fromw aht ive gathered) you never really ‘lose’ what u had. its still there, just waiting to be tapped.
it forms the basis tho. look at how many top triathletes are ex swimmers. i think you’ll find more ex swimmers than runners or cyclists. swimming is a sport which requires alot of dedication to get good at. so do tris and ironman
What some peopel are forgetting is that cycling also reshaped his body. Almost all cyclists have a huge muscle mass in the legs, and almost nothing in the upper-body. That type of body is gonna be hard to change…
When he stops his career on the bike, it might be possible that he race in Kona, for some cancerfond or something like that… But I don’t think he’ll win… Maybe top20 if he’s lucky…
