Is it possible to get a Cervelo Soloist Ultegra 10 Speed?

.

Certainly. Either have your LBS buy a Soloist Centaur or Soloist Team and swap out the kit. This is a pretty straightforward process.

I think Centaur is much better, but to each his own and ths customer is *always *right. So, I think most LBS’s would accomodate this entirely reasonable request with their compliments.

I just have so many Shimano compat. wheels.

True, that does make sense. I’ve been in the same position.

really? even Centaur is better than Ultegra???

Yes, and Chorus is better than Dura Ace, and Record is better than anything out there, hands down.

…is this ‘widely’ accepted…or are you biased like Record10Ti?

asked sincerely - b/c I’m in the process of consideirng a fully Campy makeover myself…record is just so, so expensive.

True, that does make sense. I’ve been in the same position.

Tom or others-
sorry about my ignorance, but is the spacing b/w cogs different b/w a Shimano 9-speed and a Campy 9-speed? IOW, major style point deduction aside, can I run a campy cassette w/ an STI shifter? It should work if the Shimano and the Campy shifter have the same lateral displacement per click and both cassettes are in the same space relative to the dropout, right?

Thanks!

I doubt Centaur is probably roughly on par with Ultegra 10. Record and Chorus are mechanically identical, but Record is more bling with the ti and carbon bits. is this a once in a lifetime dream bike you’re outfitting? if so you can justify Record.

I agree - Record is for the “over the top” bike. Chorus is a killer value and functions better the Shimano (IMO) in race-like situations. The indexing is more pronounced, the feel more mechanical, making the chance of overshifts and mistakes less likely (for me). Shimano has an EXTREMELY light touch by comparison and can only upshift one gear at a time. Campy will upshift the whole cassette if needed, but with a very pronounced index at each gear. You want a Ferrari or an Acura?

Can anybody comfirm or deny the rumor that Campy/Shimano 10spd is “unofficially” compatible. I believe Specialized was mixing parts last year on some models and took heat. Any truth to this?

What makes you say Ultegra 10 is better than Centaur?

“I doubt Centaur is probably roughly on par with Ultegra 10” should have been “Centaur is probably roughly on par with Ultegra 10.” sorry for the confusion.

What makes you say Ultegra 10 is better than Centaur?

wooziness from multiple drugs (over the counter medications, fortunately) made me say it. I was saying that I doubt Centaur is outright superior to Ultegra 10, but that it’s roughly equal. both groups have their pluses and minuses. (I’ve used 9s Ultegra, 9s and 10s Centaur, 9s DA, Record, and a Record/Chorus/Centaur/DA mishmash).

We tried this, the shift quality is pretty spotty. It works acceptably about 85% of the time, so I suppose it depends on how picky you are.

I wouldn’t recommend it.

As a resource though, Wheels Manufacturing of Boulder does make a cogset that is Shimano compatible but with Campagnolo splines, i.e., you can use Campagnolo brand/sline pattern wheels with a genuine Shimano brand compatible cogset. They also make the reverse combination, Campagnolo cogs for use on Shimano spline pattern. They work pretty good too. Your dealer can get them from Quality Bicycle Parts in Minnesota.
