Is it legal to race with a Camelbak under your jersey?

Is it allowed by USAT to race with a camelbak under your jersey for the purpose of decreasing one’s coefficient of drag? How about USA cycling? UCI? Does anyone do it?

Yes

No…and besides, how much time you going to spend getting it there.

No

No

No and maybe it is time for you to break some new ground…I am sure that a pair of compression socks, arm coolers, aero helmet and a camel back under your shirt will make Tri geeks the world over proud that we if no other group is always dressed for success.

  1. I don’t know.

  2. Yes.

  3. People do it, so presumably yes.

  4. I’ll use a Camelbak under my skinsuit in TTs when it is really hot. Back when I had a bike w/ only one water bottle mount, I did the same thing in mass start races.

Didn’t some Pro riders do that during last year’s Tour? (One of the TT stages I believe- it seemed like a pretty big hump on his back)

Bobby Julich did at least in '05 (I think) in the TTT in hte Tour…

.

Yes. They make both the RaceBak and RaceFront, which are designed specifically for this purpose (TT’ing, but you could certainly use them for triathlon).

Wacky.

Now all they have to do is incorporate a swamp cooler into it, and you’ll really be all set.

Has anyone actually tried the Racevest with an aero helmet? It appears it would interfere with they back of the helmet.

Yes. Dave Zabriske

I believe Big George Hincapie uses one. I believe he used it at the Tour.

YOu can see the valve sticking out of his jersey.
