I have spent the last 15 minutes on the net looking for a single duathlon in the state of California and nothing. Other than the one in Camp Pendleton I couldn’t find squat. I cannot believe the Dannon duathlon in palm Springs got hacked this year.
There has got to be more people out there that hate the swim as much as I do!
Does this has anything to do with Empfield killing the duathlon position at USAT? (joke)
Aren’t there a couple of sprint duathlons done in conjunction with the triathlon series down in San Diego? I think Koz Enterprises puts them on, Solana and Imperial Beach…Oh, and BTW, it does suck! At the very least, dus are great for training.
Duathlon is not dead in the state of California, but it does have one foot in the grave and the other in a mud puddle. This isn’t the cause of any one person, especially Slowman. It is the cause of all of us though. When a major race like the Dannon Palm Springs race only gets a 150 or so entrants, who would expect a high dollar event to stick around. In the case of the Palm Springs event, it wasn’t just that event that got the axe, the whole series got nixed because of in part low turnout overall. If people don’t come to the races, they no longer will exist. There are all kinds of excuses, wrong time of the year, conflicts with other races, etc, but bottom line, not enough entries, no race.
There is the Devil Dog Duathlon this weekend at Camp pendleton, and the Spring Sprint Triathlon/Duathlon the next weekend at Mission Bay (San Diego) and I believe there are a couple of races in the San Fransicso area later this year. If you want to see more races, write to the race directors and tell them, then show up. Right now there are about 275 entrants for Camp Pendleton, a pretty decent showing.
That Pendleton race is a great race. Unfortunately I can’t make it this year. (Yeah, yeah, I’m all excuses) For those of you in the area, it’s a great race to support.
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA I LOVE RUNNING! AND SWIMMING! I LOVE RUNNING! AND SWIMMING! I LOVE RUNNING! AND SWIMMING! I LOVE RUNNING! AND SWIMMING! I LOVE RUNNING! That was actually one of the things I liked the most of the event “only” 150 people not 1500.
