Is Advil and Beer a dangerous combo?

Thought?

There are reports of bad interactions with alcohol and acetaminophen…

It’s considered not to be. It’s tylenonl (acteminophen ) that is, not ibuprofen (which is what advil is).

I’ll let you know tomorrow morning assuming I wake up…

Seeings how I pretty much live on the stuff, advil that is, never been a problem for me.

God I sure hope not or I am dead all ready
.

In moderation it’s OK. They’re both broke down by the liver. Don’t overload. Advil is not a heavy.

Having said that, did a crappy Oly today. I’ll stick to the beer tonight.

A little off topic, but I spilled my beer as I was opening this thread…anyone have tips for getting it out of my sofa? Soak and blot??

Nope - acetaminophen is metabolized by liver (cytochrome system), but ibuprofen (and most other NSAIDs) are excreted in the urine largely unchanged (broken down to isomers and conjugated in the bloodstream).

Alcohol and ibuprofen is fine in “recommended” doses

The problem, should it occur, is that the anti-prostaglandin effects of Advil can adversely affect the Kidney blood flow. Although alcohol is somewhat of a diuretic, if you get dehydrated and take Advil concomitantly, you could have a problem. Usually, people that drink beer aren’t getting that dehydrated.

If it were me, I’d take a couple of aspirin with alcohol, and if I drink a bit too much, add a little benadryl. That’s just what I would do.

"Nope "

My bad. I should have remembered that. Thanks for the correction.

Thought you guys were just into feet.

Yup - into feet

But I write a lot or prescriptions (especially for NSAIDs and narcotics for surgery on lots of old people who are taking TONS of medications). I would hope all physicians who write Rx’s do the same (but sadly, I don’t think it is the case).

Haven’t been able to find Olympia in Illinois for years. Must be the water. I did have several New South IPA’s down here in Myrtle Beach tonight though. Hoppy goodness

Considering the 1,876,654 college kids do it 4 nights a week I would say that the effects are minimal. However I would suggest a flat coke before you go to bed if you know how to make one. If not search for the thread “how to make a flat coke”

It was standard advice when I was in college that a couple of tylenol before bed would help prevent your hangover the next morning.

Just one of numerous pieces of bad advice.
