My neighbor had 6 unmarked cars full of FBI guys who then surrounded and entered his house this morning. A few stayed on his driveway while the others were inside. They wouldn’t tell my wife anything. I don’t think he was home but they left a pink note on his front door. Is there any way I can find out what the heck happenend? I can only guess they were looking for something. Any way to find out?
2/1 he’s growing pot, probably has a medical marijuana grow card, perhaps several registered at the same address.
I don’t know him but the conversations I have had would not lead me to believe he is the peace loving dope smoking type. If I had to guess I’d say some sort of white collar crime but I really don’t have a clue.
The left him a pink note? ROFL.
GET OVER THERE AND OPEN THE PINK NOTE!!!
The suspense is killing us!
Thanks for saying out loud what we’re all thinking!
It feels like an episode of 24 without the guarantee that the next episode will ever air.
Don’t know for sure, but I doubt it as the warrant concerns an apparently ongoing investigation (which is an exception to many states’ Public Records Acts, which I know a bit about, which are modeled on the FOIA, which I don’t know much about).
I’m at work but I’ll go see if my wife is brave enough to go peak at it.
Come on wifey!!!
Yes, it’s a slow day for me.
Proably a probation check. I have them happen two doors up form me every 6 months. Unannounced, 6 plainclothed cops. They toss the place and after about 15 minutes they leave. They guys did 16 months for kiddie porn a few years ago and is on Probation for 5 years.
What neighborhood is it in?
Dave
Depends on the state. In WI, they fall into the “ongoing investigation” exception.
However, in Vermount, they are public records: http://www.gannett.com/go/newswatch/2001/april/nw0406-4.htm
Lakewood. Just past the lake.
Neighbors came home before my wife. Next door neighbor said FBI was carrying computers out of the house. Neighborhood gossip is spreading but no one knows anything.
In California, the warrant is available to the target. The law enforcement officers leave a copy at the location searched. Trouble is that it does not give you the good stuff. What you really want is the affidavit in support of the warrant. That is the thing that tells you what convinced the judge to issue the warrant in the first place. It is not a public record until after charges are filed. Then it is. Except if there is a reason for concealing all or a portion of it – think informant. Public policy is in favor of disclosure.
One way to find out what is going on is the call your local police. If someone from out of the jurisdiction is serving a search warrant or arrest warrant they hook up with the locals to make sure everyone is on the same page. Wouldn’t do for one guy’s raid to get busted up by another guy stopping a home invasion.
(although it happens)
Sounds like kiddie porn to me. Exactly what happened at my neighbors place. FBI only gets involved if there’s an international aspect to it, otherwise locals do the work for US stuff. Does that mean I can get a nice place by the lake pretty cheap when he can’t make his motgage from the pokey? That would be a nice place to move to.
