Irving Texas Tri-Festival

What are the roads like?
Is it hilly?
What body of water do you think they swim in?
Would it be wet suit legal it’s in the end of April?
Is there any where they could have this race that would be low traffic?
Any info would be helpful
Thinking about doing the 1/2 IM— wife oly distance----Kids sprint—Grandkids the kid race

Link?

If it is in or around Lake Joe Pool there are no hills to speak of. Might be some wind and yes it would be wetsuit legal.

come on down to Galveston for the Lone Star Tri Fest…www.lonestartri.com…
Half Iron, International, kids fun run…
FLAT course:)
March 31-April 1, definitely wetsuit legal…

Much better idea.

From the PlayTri website:
Average temperature on race day: low 70 - high 85.
Water temperature will most likely be wetsuit legal. USAT Wetsuit rules will apply.
Bike is on clean urban roads. The course is slightly hilly but fast. Each major intersection and turn around will be traffic controlled with directional assistance.

I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing this will be Lake Caroline. Same lake and similar course to TexasMan.

Its in Irving. Swim in Lake Caroline. The run should be really flat not much shade.

See you there.

Will the bike be all urban or will it go through some rural ? Is it a pretty course (wife wants to know)
Any need to see places to visit?
How hilly?
Is the lake clean/clear ?

Is Lake Caroline at the back of the Omni in Los Colinas (sp) where the Olympic Trials were held a few years ago? That was on hot race. You are right no shade to be found any where. I did the olympic (AG) race there but I am not familier with the rest of the area.

That was our plan but being from Missouri we would need to fly but could drive to Irving.

It’s mostly all urban area. You won’t be getting into much rural stuff. Pretty isn’t how I would describe it. It’s not that scenic.

Not hilly. This is North Texas. There aren’t that many hills here.

Lake is not even close to clear. Think chocolate milk. It’s pretty nasty, but there is certainly worse other places.

Same general course as what you’re thinking. The swim is the same. Playtri does say however that there will be a ramp out of the swim, as opposed to ladders that have been used in other races there.

The good thing is that the race is late April, so there’s still chance of a cooler race day than what was held at the trials. Run doesn’t have any shade.

I really liked the OD there. The run did have a nice little hill on each loop.

The lake was pretty nasty but I have swam in worse.

The run did have a nasty hill IIRC.
