Ok, I’m in with 2 other nuts. We’re doing the 100 relay and it looks super hilly ( elevation gain/loss is 18,000 feet ) and 75% on single track trails. This is my first long distance race beside IM’s and I have a few questions for some more experienced people: We are planning to do 6 or 7 legs each, around 33m over 24-27 hrs.
-
Do we really need to wear trail running shoes? I’ve run lots of trail here in Jersey with my regular running shoes and I’ve been ok, but, nothing this far or steep. The race is 3 weeks out and I don’t want to change anything now unless it’s absolutely necessary.
-
Can I use my IM nutrition and just run it out longer? ( we figure at least 24-27 hrs. to finish ) I’ve read that more “regular” food might be better than tons of gels and bars.
-
What about bio freeze or “ice” gel or ice during the race when I am waiting to run my leg. ( to keep swelling down?)
-
What can we do if anything to ease the pounding on our quads. ( the downhills will be worse than the climbs )
-
Would you try and sleep if possible or stay awake the whole time? ( we are crewing for each other so sleeping might not be an option )
Thanks
