Ironman worthy tubular tires?

Hi all
I just got wiped out yesterday by a crazy driver on my Felt DA. I had just had it adjusted to fit, and it was awesome. Sram red, zipp vuma quad crankset, but then smash!!! crazy driver!! i only went for a short 35km ride to ad fien adjustments (which would have been better on my turbo). I crashed and my bike slid 10 metres and sustained some dameag to the carbon on the zipp vuka bars, brake levers and a small graze on te sram derailer. I picked myself up and got myself back together several people stopped and asked if i was ok. I cracked on after checking my bike over but within 6 minutes my rear tire had deflated and within 30 mins my front tire did the same. now i was gutted enough with my grazed body, holes in assos shorts etc but then the tires!!
The puntures appear to be around the valve base where it attaches to the tyre. Is this usual? I know i sustained a crash but my bike didnt impact that hard and i was in a gentle lean when the front end went down on a bend as the driver pulled out in front of me.
A long story and the I wil stick to the turbo for my race bike and use my p2k for training as usual. But what tyres are the most practical, with minimun resistance but most importanlty puncture proof or resistant?
Can anyone give a run down of top to botoom and pros and cons?

thanks guys really appreciate your help!!

istar!!

the most puncture resistant tires are usually heavier and have worse rolling resistance =)
.

Thanks… happy with that, just need a happy medium. i’m looking at Vittoria Corsa Evo CX (320Tpi) Tubular ??? any guidance?

OK, let me get this straight. You had this beautiful bike with a nice setup. You crashed it bad enough to reduce you to back to your p2k. and all you care about is puncture resistant tires?

Your priorities are wrong. Go cry about your bike loss for a while, then go drop some money on a new bike to make yourself feel better and dont worry too much about flat resistance. Get good tires and learn how to repair them. Unless you are in my age group, then I suggest a mountain bike with armadillos for racing. You will never flat, so you must be fast.

You’re clearly an idiot!!! I use a P2k as a training bike. If you read my original message it says clearly i was out testing some re adjustments made. i dont use a felt da with a £5000 setup for training !! switch on!!! As for being in your age group i shouldn’t worry too much if you’re that rubbish you need your competition to ride MTB…!

guidance:

1: biketechreview.com has free listing of various rolling resistance tests. You can start there for good rolling resistance, then research puncture resistance to find a happy medium

  1. calm down!

I used Continental Competitions last Summer at IMCDA. I’m not much of a tire connoisseur, but I didn’t get a flat and they worked quite well. They’re pricey though… but what good tire isn’t? I’ve used the clincher version of Vittoria Open Corsa’s and they were also really good. I don’t think you can go wrong with the Vittorias. I’ve also had pretty good puncture resistance out of the Tufo tubulars.

Did you bang your head? I’m worried you may have a concussion. Or is this your normal level of lucidity?

yes i did bang my head, and no I don’t normally posess such intelligibility or lucidity. Just a response to an easily retarded statement. Thanks

Thank you !!
The first intelligible answer, I am also doing IMCAN this year along with Austria. I think I will try the vittorias… much appreciated thanks again!!

I think tufos would be the best fit for you.

Wow dude. Sorry you took a joke so seriously.

As for me being an idiot, well perhaps, but not because of my post.

So let me answer with kid gloves on. I am sorry you crashed. Seriously, crashing sucks, especially on nice gear. Skin heals, plastic does not.

As for tires, There are lots of opinions on this forum. The only one that matters is yours. Decide the balance you want between puncture resistance and rolling resistance and go drop some dough. Have fun riding, and keep the rubber side down.

Thanks jackmott for standing up for me. I hope that we can remain man crushes.

Ok guys maybe I was a bit harsh, I guess I may still have a little cuncussion!!! however thanks for the valued advice!!
thanks!!

at least 15 years of using conti GP comps says that I was very happy with them. Even in Kona on the abrasive road surface, I never had a flat. The only issue I had was that they lasted so long I had to check the sidewall for cracks after 5 years of use. Great tires.

thanks ggieger I will take a look !!

Yes…and since the fear of punctures is such a high priority, I also recommend anything with the words “gatorskin” or “hardcase” in the name
.

x2 on the Conti’s. Never a flat. For a long time I got hung up in the clincher / tubular thing. Tried different wheels, tires, etc. Never saw a performance advantage either way. Now I am going back to dependable, reliable tires-- Conti in tubular. Once I finally combine a sub 5:30 bike time with a sub 3:30 run time I will revisit how many seconds my tire choice is hurting me over the IM distance. Until then I just want to get to T2 with out getting a flat :).
