curious if anyone who has done Ironman UK last year can describe the bike course. I have done IMLP, IMC, and IMWisc and curious to the comparison in terms of climbing to these courses as cycling is my strength…well, relatively speaking anyway - cheers
I did IMUK, so far its been my only IM so can’t compare it to any other course. The bike course is constantly rolling, there are no flat bits anywhere. There are no big climbs or descents. My Polar made the total ascent on the bike of ~6100ft. The road is also rough in places. Oh and the run ain’t flat either…
Its a tough and challenging course - but great fun
As DS said it’s a nightmare - a great challenge on a nice sunny day like this year but not a day for a PB… I’d only add that, in my book at least, there was one big hill at the start of the first loop - only half a mile or so so not an Alpine epic but I doubt even Slowman would have stayed in the bars for that one.
Oh and in addition to being very hilly it was 6 km too long!! The RD referred to this under his breath at the briefing so I’m not making it up and 6km is the average xtra recorded by everyone I spoke too after the race who’d used a computer (and my personal reading).
