Does anyone have any thoughts on Ironman UK? www.ironmanuk.com It looks like entry is still available so I would be very interested to hear some comments on it. Thanks.
This is the first year that it is a full. It used to be a Half there are several posters here who raced it as a half such as Julian in england and Bjorn.
New bike course after the draft fest I saw last year. It’s going to be a lumpy bike but a scenic run. I won’t be racing as i’m out at the European age group champs the same weekend but if they get it organised (and they have a seasoned race director on board) it could be good (and hard).
I’ve done the half there for the last two years, and I’m registered for the full this year. Both times it was very well managed and the location is beautiful.
The bike was rolling rather than steep - they’re using the same course as for the last two years, but with two loops of a new bit aswell this year. I don’t know much about the run course, as it has completely changed from when it was a half. It doesn’t look so good for spectators this year as it’s just 13 miles out and 13 miles back again - that’s a bit disappointing. Aside from that 1 issue, I’m definitely looking forward to it for my 2nd IM.
Have a good look at the bike course. It’s not as plain sailing as it first appears and people will get caught out…
That part of England is pretty hilly. Sure it’s not the Alps, but from the profile of the bike it’s all up and down. It will be a toughie !
After rising up the big hill at Lyon’s Gate, the bike course takes you past the chalk figure of the Cerne Abbas Giant – lending a whole new meaning to “going hard up the hill”!
This alone is worth every penny of the entry fee!
How can I not do the race after that convincing argument?
