Agreed. That also benefits the rider in regard to the rule.
I just looked at my Cadex and my Fast TT bars/extensions with the Fast TT adapter are right at the rim and I don’t think I’m particularly long. Longer than your average fit but not as extreme as some. Lots of folks are probably outside the rule right now.
I think some of the unintended consequences of this may hit smaller riders who if they size up the bike is too large, riders riding 1 size too small, and super tall riders like the 6’5" female I fit last year. She’s forward just because her wingspan is 6’8’ and she’s on the biggest size bike in her brand, which is a shorter reach brand.
Will this rule actually be enforced if you are on “normal” aerobars with half a cm over the wheel? My bet is its more to prevent extreme setups like the Norwegian’s.
I assume you are talking about age groupers here, because every single “pro” race I have watched in the past couple decades have infractions measured in inches and feet into the zone, not the blatant pack wheel sucking we see at every single ironman event in the AG ranks. The advantage in the draft of 12 or 20 meters vs 11 or 19 is basically unmeasurable, so no one is going to try and work the system here. In fact, since most Marshalls will be more apt to give out penalties for those minor infractions(which usually are an accident, either with head down or beginning of a hill) that folks will probably not even press the minimum rule distance and give more leeway…
“athletes are allowed to carry up to two (2) water bottles in water bottle holders mounted behind the saddle provided the total capacity per bottle does not exceed one (1) Liter”
Do you reckon the Specialized Shiv Tri Fin would be classed as behind the saddle, so now be banned?
I wonder if the Profile Design HSC 250 top tube flask will be considered “hydration on the top tube” given it is designed to hold gels (and considering most would keep a top tube bag filled with gels/chews there anyway).
Also, this has me thinking about aero bottles inside the triangle again. Is there a dataset comparing different aero bottles? I’m aware of the aerocoach dataset, but it doesn’t really compare bottles from different brands.
