Ironman Triathletes - please help us

Hi there

As the dust settles on Hawaii, I’ve developed a new app that will include video and a super realistic “ride it at home” replay of next year’s Asia Pacific Ironman in Melbourne and the World 70.3 Ironman titles in Moolooolaba (plus more courses to come).

Melbourne and Mooloolaba suffer from the same problem, they’re both held on freeways, so nobody can ever ride them except on race day. We managed to video them both in HD from a car and record the gradients as we went. We have a choice, we can leave them to be used at car speed (50mph average) or we can slow them down to bike pace. Ultimately, we can provide both, but we got to thinking, maybe doing half an Ironman in an hour indoors isn’t such a bad idea. You’d still get to see what it looks like, and you’d still feel the exact gradient of every climb, it would just all be over much more quickly. Any thoughts?

Here’s a link to the app as it stands at the moment. Any feedback would be greatly received. http://www.FulGaz.com

Michelle LeBlanc has produced videos of IM Texas based on similar idea, including comments. I used it over the winter to learn and visualise the course. I don’t know exactly how long is the videos, but you can check by how much they speeded it up. btw, it was not an app, just youtube videos.

I just had a look, she’s done a great job. I guess the key difference with what we’re doing is if you’ve got the right equipment you can “feel” what all the changes in gradient feel like as well as see the course. We’re also working on simulating wind speed and direction. That could be handy for Hawaii!

Fair points. It would be nice if you have the footage to produce one high-tech version, and a low-tech mp4 version open to everybody (not just using i-something products ;). just my 2c. Good luck!

We’ll look into that. Thanks for your input.
