Ironman Switzerland (3)

Has anyone does this race before? Also, how quickly does it fill? I am considering it for 2010 with a sign up opening in June, wondering if it will be tough to get in or it’s a slow filler. I think the race is near Zurich right? Any experience with this one would be appreciated. Thanks.

You will have a couple of days to enter, it never used to fill that quick but like the rest of IM’s its getting quicker. If you miss out there are still slots available with certain sport holiday companies such as Nirvana etc.

Its held in Zurich with the swim in the crystal clear waters of Lake Zurich, awesome. The bike is very scenic with smooth surfaces apart from a few km’s in the city and the run is laps around the waters edge. When I done it in 2005 it was very warm. The transition is unlike other IM’s as you change by your bike so dont be shy and expect to see a fair amount of flesh.

What is the sport holiday company Nirvana? Is this something in Switzerland? If need be I can have my sister or bro-in law do something for me there.

You can usually do everything online.

I also recommend Ken Glah’s company, http://www.endurancesportstravel.com/ they have entries available with their travel packages. We went to IMSwitzerland with them 2008 and it was great. Especially for a first time at a foreign race. They have unbelievable support race week. No need to rent a car. There is limited parking in Zurich and less near the race site.

I did it last year and we signed up in September. It took about 6 weeks to fill up for this year’s race but they did just release a few more spots due to one of the IM Travel companies couldn’t sell them.

Fantastic race and yes transition is like any sprint race I have done. Everything right by your bike. I found it much better as I didn’t have to make sure I had everything in the right bag.

If you are in the States you can use www.endurancesportstravel.com

I did the race in 2006 it is great and I used Ken Glah’s travel service. When I signed up i think it was in dec. but alot has changed and it sells much faster. You will be able to get in when registration opens. If for some odd reason you forget or dont have the cash at the time Ken has slots at a later date.

Excellent production, fast course.Hit and miss with weather.
Good Luck.

Good guys even when you don’t travel with them. We were in the same hotel as his main group and they stored my bike for me and my wife and even gave them a once over before the race.

Great race but probably the most expensive trip I’ve taken compared to other IMs. Used Ken Glah’s group also which was great.
