Ironman St. George Active website

Has anyone noticed the Active.com website for Ironman St. George? It has a date of May 01, 2010 but the information listed for Ironman Louisville. http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1688611&assetid=6afc3a11-0611-474f-b727-12d6b6c5fea (I think that’s the right link, if not, do a search for “Ironman St. George” and the link will show up.)

Thanks.

I could not find it by searching on the site, but your link did work. Hopefully they will just announce it soon. This is a race I really would like to do (the location would be perfect for me), so I will be bummed if it falls through.

I’m sure the page is being built based on the Kentucky page’s template. Whoever is doing it at Active probably forgot to keep the page private.

Unless someone is REALLY bored and hacking Active to create fake IM pages is there way of having fun

Would this be St George, Utah or St George in the Carribean?

They plan on announcing it next month according to my source

The city of St. George has approved the WTC agreement.

Says it will be on Saturday too.

It says that the swim will take place in “Sand Hollow”? I was looking at the map and cannot find such a place. Any locals know where this is? Looks like it will be a really cool venue.

Sand Hollow is North and East of the Town of St. George. It is where they hold the current St. George Triathlon. I think the town is Washington where its location actually is. Should be about 5 miles north and 5 miles east of the city center of St. George.

I’ve raced from Sand Hollow before, though the lake water was pretty low and we had a long run from the water. It was a nice swim. This is not going to be an easy course for the run or the bike because there is not a lot of flat area anywhere near the lake. On a map you have to go north on I-15, take the Hurricane exit and head east for bit.

Should be interesting to see how the course layout is.

Ugh. I was hoping for the Caribbean…

I did a little Google pedometer check of the elevation and distance from Sand Hollow to Gunlock. It is 31 miles (most direct route) and the elevation change was 912 feet. Sounds about the right distance for an out and back course where T2 is in downtown St. George. A lot will depend on how the course is laid out as you said.

“The triathlon event consists of (1) swimming 2.4 miles in Sand Hollow Reservoir; (2)
bicycle 112 miles into Veyo and back down into St. George twice; and (3) run a 26.2
mile marathon.”

The elevation change from Gunlock to Veyo is about 800 feet…that should be fun!!

The venue and scenery will be very cool. Sand Hollow is similar to Lake Powell or Lake Mead (more like Lake Powell) with red slick rock shores and red sand beaches. The water temp will be perfect that time of year - probably low-mid 60s. There’s a pretty cool little slick rock island close to the boat ramp and I’d guess that a two loop swim will go completely around it - just guessing/wishing. I’ve done the St. George Marathon many times and the course support and volunteer organization should be top notch. The bike on an out and back to Veyo should be fun - the out route will involve some gradual climbing and the back portion should be super-fast and fun.

From someone who lives in Northern Utah this is a bitter/sweet piece of news for me. Doing an early May Ironman is an indoor training nightmare. But on the other hand I’m excited that Utah will be hosting an Ironman event again. I’ll probably sign-up.

Dont do it man, I did IMAZ back in 2005 and I was so burnt out with indoor rides and runs during the winter. Imagine a 5 hour ride out to the marina in the cold winter is the highlight of your training. If I do another Ironman it will have to be Silverman.
