Ironman Races in South America

I’m looking to do an Ironman in South America. Up until a month or so ago, seemed the only option was Brazil, which sold out immediately. Recently, Chile and Argentina have been added for late 2026.

1- Brazil has long been on my list, knowing I would need to pounce asap for a 2027 entry. Oddly, I noticed on the Brazil bike course info that the quick reference classifies the bike course as hilly, and the map shows nearly 12,000 feet of climbing- which seemingly is a measuring device mistake- maybe a bridge or tunnel that is crossed 3 times is my guess. I always thought the Brazil bike course was flat. Anyone have any insights?

2- Chile is a bit too chilly for me. They lost me at 57 degree average water temperature.

3- Argentina seems interesting. At first glance the air temperatures turned me off; but on further look, I realized they didn’t convert from C to F accurately for the air temps. The 70 F/ 21C water temp in a clean freshwater lake sounds amazing, but oddly I noticed for the same venue’s 70.3 they say it’s an ocean swim in the quick reference area. Also for the bike, Argentina states it is a hilly course, but the bike map states only 745 meters of climbing for the full. That seems pretty tame.

All of these errors and oversights on the event info pages gives me pause and question what is accurate. Am I wrong here?? I’s appreciate any input about these 3 races to help me choose the best one for me.

Thanks!

Just flagging the elevation gain is in fact in meters, so something like 2400 feet on the bike. Which isnt exactly flat

Agreed, but I surely wouldn’t classify that as hilly, as the website suggests, unless they were steep and punchy.

It looks like a massive net downhill… so hilly just downhilly
