Ironman Nutrition Help?

I would like to find some other sources of IM nutrition. I was using Sustained Energy from Hammer Nutrition, but I have developed an allergy to soy. It does my stomach in with all the GI issues we don’t want. It works well for events under 3 hours, but after that the issues start.

What does everyone else use that is not SOY based for the protein?? Any help or recommendation would be helpful.

Thanks

First Endurance does not use protein in their EFS sports drink or their ‘gel’, but it is a good one. They also just launched a ‘Team Website’ that has an IM nutrition focus. It is linked in their newsletter…linked below. Anyone can sign up. Robert, the owner, appears to comment pretty regularly on the forum…

Note: not sponsored, I buy their products b/c they work. They also do a lot of research on nutrition in general and endurance related sports.

I recently started using 1st End as well. They dont use protein but they have all the amino acids that you need from it, and they are easier to digest. You can use the liquid shot and the sports drink with addition of Carb Pro (maltodextrin) and be set. I am really liking the liquid shot, easy and takes good, no GI issues either…which I have an easy time with do to intolerances. CHeck out personalbestnutrition.com, Briain is VERY helpful with these questions!

It seems odd that your issues start after 3 hrs. I would suggest that it’s not an allergy, but perhaps you’re taking in way too many calories?

What does Infinit use? I confess I haven’t read all the fine print, mostly just went on testimonials and a promo freebie to get started w/ it, but I’ve been pleased so far.

I had good luck with CarboPro 1200 at my last IM. It does not contain protein.

Infinit uses Whey Protein. Only thing I have a complaint about is the foaminess I get when I shake it up (possibly due to the whey) and some other user suggested adding mylicon to it to reduce that.

That is what I thought at first too. It is a time to system thing. For shorter events and training, I can get by with it because te symptoms don’t start right away. I was a huge fan of Clif bars, until they about rotted my gut. Then I was tested and soy was the issue. Nothing against Clif bars, they taste great.

I can tolerate it, but my issue is on race day and being able to try and be issue free…

Thanks

I would recommend talking to Steve at Hammer. He’s pretty good at sorting those issues out, and making a plan that would work for you. No sense nowdays to have that happen, as there’s so much good stuff out there, and a lot of crap. I am of the opinion that a bit of protein is good in an ironman, though.
