Ironman New Orleans Bike Power

In my never ending quest to get more aero I was wondering what times/power/equipment other people used at IMNOLA.

I did 2:23:50
Average Power: 231
Normalized Power : 235

Age 27
Height 6’6
Weight 183 lbs

Equipment:
2008 P2C
2008 Zipp 808 clincher on the front
Wheel cover on the back
Michelin pro race 3 with laytex tubes.
LG Rocket Air Helmet
One piece hammer tri suit
Lots of spacers and a low seat

I’m working on gathering power files from Full and half IM. I already have some good data on NO70.3 but send me you file and when I’m done I will share the results. email the file to phillip.luce@att.net

how you forget so quickly. I’ve already sent you my file!

Dude, that’s a smokin’ ride - well done.

My average was 189, haven’t seen normalized but would guess 200ish. 2:28 and change for me. More mature than u (47) and lighter - 158 lbs. TTX on MP2L w/ latex.

How was the run? FTP?

what powermeter did u use?

Damn good job!

Powertap SL

My TT FTP is around 290-300.

I was HURTING on the run. I really don’t think it was due to the fast bike, my bike ride was really evenly paced and I felt good the whole time. I felt good for first few times then died.

My run was 1:50:02 or something. I think i had salt problems and hydration problems. It was really hot and they only had hot gatorade :(. Water was luke warm and HOT tangerine power gels. no fun at all. Fuel belt next time.

I posted my position on slowtwitch a few days before the race. I had almost 100% negative feed back on it. But maybe I would have gone faster if I would have listened to them ;).

Good job! Thanks for sharing the info.

I was using an 2008 P2C with a 404 front clincher and an 808 rear clincher with an SL+ hub and my data is as follows:

Norm: 234
avg: 229
bike split 2:25:15

I too blew up on the run.

Why are you calling it “Ironman New Orleans”. It was a half Ironman.

Why are you calling it “Ironman New Orleans”. It was a half Ironman.

Actually its called

Ironman New Orleans 70.3

http://www.ironmanneworleans.com/

since everyone on here knows it was a half who gives a crap?

…just sayin man

feel free to use the 70.3 suffix. It’s like calling a VW an Audi, or a Toyota a Lexus…yeah I know…

No it would be like calling a lexus an LS or a GS.

Lexus (Ironman) LS(140.6), GS (70.3).

But i guess we’ll just make up our own stuff instead of whats on the website.

Sorry to offend you.

My position must suck I only got:
220 w avg (I haven’t found NP with the power agent software)
2:31
age 50
5 10 1/2
163 lbs
Softride Rocketwing
808 rear with cover
specialized tri spoke front (yea all my equipment is old like me)

JJ

what tires/tubes and pressure were you using?

I think the rear is a 23 Continental 4000, don’t remember what’s on the front but it’s a 21. Both are clinchers at 120 psi.

JJ

If you throw out the pros you had the 33rd fastest bike split including relays. Pretty smokin for 231 watts. I need to get myself to a wind tunnel.

JJ

Hey, congrats on your race…just giving you guys a hard time…basically saying that you’ve fallen directly into the trap that WTC had hoped for. They figured that they could not really grow the 140.6 market that much more without over saturation, as there are only so many hard core/serious participants that want to put the work in, so why not start a shorter race series, and to make sure that 2000-3000 people sign up per race, let’s call it Ironman 70.3. People will conveniently skip out on using the 70.3 suffix. Less training and less heartache and we can sell all the Mdot gear we want and grow revenue from the brand. I think it is brilliant business, however, calling a half Ironman an Ironman is like calling a half marathon a full marathon.

…or as Chris G says, I just broke 18 minutes in my marathon (3.1).

Dev

haha, yah. I just keep typing ironmanneworleans.com to look at results and I slipped. I always call it a half or a him or a 70.3.

Really? Sweet!

Here’s a link to my position. I was experimenting with different drops before the race. I ended up going with position 1 and I would turtle my head when I was going into the wind.

Funny thing is that everyone told me my seat is too low. I have a TON of spacers too, it’s hard to see in the video though so I think that’s why no one said anything about it.

I have a rounded back though and don’t have a very classic TT position. I was expecting myself to not be very aero.
