Might be of interest to some. “The Distance: A Triathlete’s Journey.” is showing today in Milwaukee. Caught it in this morning’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. More info… http://www.jsonline.com/entertainment/movies/39181647.html
Great, thanks
.
I just saw an ad for the DVD. Have any STers seen the movie and if so, how was it? $23 + $6 shipping is pretty steep for a DVD, but I wouldn’t mind supporting the effort if it’s a good documentary.
I got it for Christmas. I did think the price was a bit steep, but I know he needed to make money. I thought it was very well done and extremely interesting. I got very caught up in the people’s lives and would love to know what they are doing now. It’s worth it.
I liked it. its a good DVD, I bought it a fe wmonths back.

Hi,
Thanks for your compliments about the movie. Im Josh, one of the triathletes that Rich filmed for The Distance. This was Rich’s first adventure into the documentary/film realm and we had a lot of fun making the movie. It may not be flashy but I think it does give you a really good insight into what we went through as normal people training for Ironman. I was pretty dedicated to doing tri’s while going through college, but also did not want to give up my one opportunity to really experience what its like to be 21 and “invincible.” I recently graduated from Marquette with a BS in exercise science and am working as a personal trainer and multisport coach in the Charlotte NC area. My girlfriend is working in the teach for america program and teaching 7th grade science ( 7th graders must have crack on there cereal every morning or something). I am taking a year or two off from Iron distance racing to focus more on road racing and some shorter tri’s and really looking forward to it! Im really enjoying the fact that there is no snow on the ground here even in January and I can ride all year round…someone should go up to the midwest and fill everybody else in to what they are missing! Have a good one guys
Hey great to hear from you and I’m glad you are doing well in NC. Good luck in your career and your racing adventures. Maybe in a few years Rich could make a follow up documentary so we can see where you guys are in your racing.
Best wishes…
3 hours watching beginners swim/bike/run training for an IM. You’d have to pay me $26+ to watch it.
Agreed, I bought the movie and thought it was interesting, but far too long. It would’ve been a lot better had it been at least an hour shorter.
Josh, you came off well in the movie. Not everyone did (heard some not so nice comments from many people about the mom, but I forget her name).
I thought “What It Takes” was a lot better, for example.
