Ironman Louisville (7)

i didn’t think the run was flat. Maybe you are stronger than me. My last 2.6 miles were a 5:30 pace!

Actually, the last “2.6” miles was only 2.2 miles…

I thought the race went amazing. The run in transitions were not that long. I’ve seen a lot longer. All 6 racers that I was watching said it out did NA Sports. That’s from their mouth!

My wife and I were talking about the same thing last night. It was her 5th IM & my 9th IM start (1st DNF). The race organization and on course support was better than any other IM I’ve done. Even the modified swim start went off great. NA Sports could take some lessons.

That is hard to believe. Could you give a few examples of how NA could do better and how the IMKY race was better?

Kudos to L’ville and he race organization…top notch…my 2nd “Iron distance” 1st. m-dot…respectable 12hr 9min time…great…I mean great bike course…10-13miles to get your nutrition/rest, then hills from hell, then rolling, then 15miles flat to take you home…run was scenic (old houses, frat row, etc;)…oh, and shady 50%…

Cannot speak to other IM races, but I was very pleased with this one…also, there are at least “4” big hotel chains within a few blocks of the swim/bike transition…their waterfront is great for an event like this.

I don’t know if there was a big enough difference between NA sports and WTC but IMLou was extremely well organized even with last minute course changes. I will admit that I thought the transition volunteers were a little better prepped. For example, at transition each athlete had a volunteer walk them through how transition was going to work. Also, the aid stations seemed to be more slightly more consistently equipped and manned. It was a good course and the crowds were fantastic - I think that this event had a pretty similar feel to IMWI. For the most part I don’t think most people would find a noticable difference and I would have no hesitation from doing an event put on by either company.

Hey Dan, how did the race go for you? I know you had been dealing with some cramping issues prior to the race. Did you get them straightened out? I was curious, I have been having the same problems and was just wondering if you figured out the magic formula.

Congrats on the finish !!!

Good to hear. I was wondering how that event would go.

How was the Expo? Crowded? Well supported? Large/small?

The race seemed indeed very well run and there were lots of volunteers everywhere. I only saw the expo on race day, and that is never a good day to judge an expo. Nonetheless the expo seemed a bit small but considering that another big Ironman was happening in North America it was easy to see that there would be some logistics problem for certain sponsors who may have wanted to be there.

The expo at the Galt House was a pretty good sized and pretty much what I have seen at other Ironman races…I don’t know if it is any different than NASports events but I would say that there *seemed *be more of a presence of local stuff at the expo -mainly a few booths that highlighted area attractions and stuff. Whereas Degree had a bigger presence in the past, obviously Ford has taken their place and is promoted heavily. Really, I can’t say that there was any difference…at least none that I noticed. I don’t know about crowded because I went early on Friday morning before the meeting when it was dead, but the space should have been plenty big. Oh, one difference was that there was event merchandise at the finish…but this makes sense because the transition/expo and the finish were at different places. I’ll admit I am trying to find some big difference between the two but it would be pretty hard…NA Sports and WTC put on comparable events and I don’t think most people would be able to tell a discernable difference - both are top notch.

Thanks for that. I was up in the air as to if we were going to the event. Sounds like IMInc put on a good show. Good for them.

Congrats to the race organization. I doubted whether they could come close to an NAS production, but it sounds like they did.

Welcome to Kentucky! Y’all come back now, y’hear?

Yeah Mike, very comparable. I would say the actual expo size/traffic to be a little smaller than say LP or FL because it was inside a building (host hotel), but just down the hall where you had to register. But, since 1/2 the “merchandise” visitors are not actually the athletes, that may cut out some of the traffic?

For you though, it would be the same with virtually all the athletes coming through. I still wore on of your InfinIT tats on my left arm again and had ZERO issues all day in the heat.

Thanks for that. It looks like I will go next year (if they have me).

I got halfway there…was planning for a hotter day and drank too much! I gained one pound at the end of the race (which means I actually gained more water b/c of the energy I burned). Oh well. I had to walk a lot of the middle of the marathon. I didn’t drink anthing for the second to last 10k and felt good enough to push it in.

I did get an infinit for the bike which worked well. Even though I train with gatorade powder I couldn’t get any of the GEF down. It tasted like vomit in my mouth.

Next time I’ll carry infinit concentrate in a fuel belt.

Yeah, rroof pointed that out to me this morning. hmm. I guess that would work out to be 6:30s then. that makes more sense. 5;30 is approaching my fastest mile repeat time.
