Ironman kentucky- drive the bike course?

question for the folks that know the course…is it worth driving the bike course? doesnt look like there are too many tight turns with downhills, but wanting to know if its worth it or not?..can you let it rip on the downhills?

thanks

I would drive it. Since the LaGrange portion is 2 loop you obviously only have to drive it once. The out and back is the worst of the hills. Be careful if you want to “let er’ rip” there because it gets awful crowded on the climbs, and there were riders climbing on the wrong side of the road at times due to the congestion. Otherwise, mostly constant rollers, but there are some sections where you have to watch your speed coming down hill…the left turn onto the one lane road comes immediately to mind.

You need to be careful on the downhill portion of the out and back. Unless they have been fixed in the last month there are a few “cracks” and pot holes that can send you flying if you hit them too fast. They are right at the bridge. I would drive the course. If you are down there and have the time. Nice to know what to expect. GSH

I’d also be careful crossing the railroad tracks on River Road, about a mile into the ride- it’s gotten much worse in the last few years… Maybe they will cove rit with something but if not, I’d recon the tracks and find the best place to cross.
