Ironman Japan South Hokkaido

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like the Sado and IM races are only a week apart.

Although I got a waitlist spot last year, I decided not to do it last year for family reasons. I probably won’t consider it this year for the same reason. I live in the US and travel to all races with my entire family, and it’s getting tougher to do races like this.

I’m interested in the new 70.3. I’ve rode once through the Atsumi Peninsula and really enjoyed it, so it would be nice to go back. It also might be logistically easier for me to do because it’s closer to Tokyo.

I’m sure that’s not coincidence. IM’s trying to put the other race out of business.

Unfortunately 70.3 Japan won’t be held in 2025 as they could not get agreement with the local farmers to hold the race again. So it probably can’t be held in this area ever again. Farmers rule here.

Besides the Sado B race, there are a handful of other decent middle distance races around. Japan Multisport has a good calander that is worth checking out, just search for middle distance races.

The most foreigner friendly race is likely Biwako in June that is put on by Joe Tanaka of Ceepo bike fame and is close to Kyoto and Osaka.
