Ironman Hamburg (1st June) - Run up, race day and review

Too busy watching.
Matthews will be biding her time before a serious push with 25km to go.
You’d think Philipp would be more confident that Matthews if they’re close at T2.
Loevseth has overbiked and will be running into the unknown. She ran 1:16 in Venice-Jesolo (about 20.7km so 400m short) so well up there with Matthews’ and Philipp’s best 70.3 run splits.

Yeah, lots going on and it is tough to follow everything going on. I literally have a headache right now from this weekends lack of sleep and sports watching overload.

T100, Ironman Hamburg, Giro, Unbound and Torian Pro CrossFit here in Oz.
I am exhausted

I 1000% forgot about the Giro until yesterday.

It’s also school graduation season here.

Add in all the non-endurance sports big events (Memorial Tournament, NBA conference finals, Stanley Cup Final about to start) and…it’s a lot.

I just turned on the coverage. What happened to Jackie Hering? I don’t see her on the tracker.

I do think Jackie H might be better served pulling the pin on this race and going to IM Cairns for her KQ spot and Pro Series points.

Maybe she did withdraw? According to the tracker, she was 10+ minutes down at the 97.5 km mark. She doesn’t show up after that.

Think highly likely Hering has pulled out after the almost flat ruined her ride. The 97km mat is very close to transition/hotel.
Think Svensk might have got a mechanical or penalty.

based on what do you think loevseth has overbiked, she rides rather relaxed I would say without the bar issue she would potentially broke them on the bike.

overall I would say kat not enough focused on herself and too aggressive while Laura is cool as a cucumber not wasting any mental energy.

the new course this year is so much better and safer …

Youthful debut enthusiasm
How shall we judge whether she has overbiked?

you made a claim so you have justify lol

she is just a massively strong cyclist not quite Taylor knibb but the next thing I would say .

Well as soon as Matthews pressed on the pedal, Loevseth couldn’t even stay with Philipp. Slow run start.
Philipp will be confident she can run Matthews down. The only question is motivation (and Philipp has Roth in a month). But they are both uber-competitive.

Timezones definitely don’t help

For those for whom youtube works:

Matthews and Philipp are running the same pace, unsustainably fast: sub-2:40 for the first lap. Blow-ups or catches and run together incoming.

Kat has a bike coach and Laura has a tri coach so we know Laura is going to win

Tell me about it. I was up until past 3am watching the T100 this morning. Helps if you don’t have a life though.

Kat is 1:18:22 through the first half of the run.

To win they’ll have to record a faster time than the IM Texas ‘world best’: 8:10:34.
Anything faster than a 2:46 marathon will do it.

Matthews to Philipp gap has increased after they had run ‘exactly’ same speed for 13 miles (2 laps)
