I will be using my 808s. The descents are not as steep and technical as you may think, meaning that you can pedal down them, thus aero drag becomes a factor. Also the first 20K is against the wind, then the wind will change direction and it will be against you on the way back in. It’s not a huge wind, but enough to add more to the aero argument.
I thought it was more like 2300m climbing? That is what I got a couple of years ago… aero is fine, the climbs are not really that steep, although given the choice I would ride a road set-up again, just for more control/confidence on the descents. they are not way technical, but I thought they were an easy way to “not lose too much more time”…
well it has to be carbon… that isnt up for debate. but the warning is noted… i train a few months every winter in the mountains, so i have a healthy respect for them
Agreed. Your 808s will be fine, but given the option, I’d stay away from carbon brake surface, those rims will get VERY hot. Also watch out if it does rain, there will be a lot of debris on the roads - not funny at 50mph+! and they will be very slippery.
Road or Tri bike is fine as well. As a frame of reference, I completed about 85% of this course in the aero position (approximation) on a Tri Bike. The descents are not necessarily ‘aero position’ descents but you will not be at any disadvantage on a tri bike if that is what you are asking. Typically, the euro’s ride road bikes but then again, the year I completed the course, most of these same people did not even bring out their runners as they did the race just to try & hammer the bike course.
