Is anyone from the forum heading down to Ironman Fortaleza? My wife and I are both racing (coming from the Dallas area), and thought it would be good to start some conversation with other racers about plans once we are there (safe places to ride, ect.)
I will be very interested in hearing about it when you return.
I had a exchange student from there who lived with me years back, we remains close friends. I spent a summer there, in 2003.
Here is my warning, the water in and around the city is so bad you can’t get in it. He lived a few blocks from the beach, and when we walked to the beach the water was empty, smelled like sewage, and only a few tourists would hang out on the beach.
It was at least a 30 minute drive from the city to get somewhere where the water was safe enough to get into.
All around the city is the dirtiest I have ever seen.
All that said, the countryside is gorgeous, as are the ladies, so don’t let your wife see you looking.
I did the race.
For me was great.
But about the beach… it depends… i suppose that your friend lives in a not so good local/place.
Because, unfortunatelly, you always will have “bad beachs” and good beachs to swim.

the good places are a little away of the city

They are thinking in change this IM in a HIM in 2016

How many are racing this year? I heard it was 500± and with a high DNF rate like last year there should be some easy KQ.
