Ironman Florida - Condo at the race site

The new Boardwalk condo’s will be open for Ironman Florida in November! They have one, two and three bedroom condo’s avialable. These will fill up FAST as they are next to the transition. I just booked mine for the week. They do have a five day minimum - Phone # is 1-800-224-4853. Z

What are these going for per night?

Tom,

Do they have a website? Just curious to see what the amenities and the like are.

Thanks,

Pete

My two bedroom was $229 per night - one bedrooms were $179 per night - i did not ask about the three bedroom. Z

Pete - the web site does not show the new units, just the old hotel rooms at the Boardwalk. I got to the hotel web site from the Ironman Florida site. www.ironmanna.com. Z

Yikes!! a bit rich for my blood!
Looks like long gone are the $79.00 per night roach hotels…

sounds like that will work great for a lot of people. one thing to be aware of staying at the boardwalk beach resort (stayed there in 03) is that the transition area and athlete’s village is set up in the parking lots, and pretty much everyone will have to move their cars to spinnaker’s parking lots. not that short of a walk (close to half mile) and can be a pain in the ass if you’re lugging a bunch of stuff back and forth from the hotel entrance to the parking lot.

i don’t have anything against the place and had a good stay otherwise. just wanted to give a head’s up so people can weigh in the convenience factors between the location and the parking considerations.

I was thinking about moving down the beach a bit but 180/night with parking issues does not compare well to places like The Summit even with the short walk.

I just thought of a new business opportunity. Help athletes get their equipment back to their rooms/cars after the race. I know I’d pay $20 - $40 to not have to carry crap for a half mile. If I had that much energy left I would have finished faster.

I have stayed at the Summit…perfect for a Triathlon weekend…

I’ve stayed there twice for IMFL. It isn’t The Trump International but for less than $100/night it isn’t bad. I’d thought about the new Boardwalk condos to cut down on the walking during the week but not at double the price.

I’m at Sterling Beach. Any idea how far the walk is or comments on this place?

Thanks, Andy

Andy - Never heard of Sterling Beach - is it on Thomas Drive?

What about the Sunbird? I got a good rate for a whole week. Nice little vacation, 3 days before the race, 4 after (leaving wed after the race). Has anybody stayed here? Seems pretty close to the transition.

Yep, 6627 Thomas Drive. Thanks Tom!

sunbird is VERY nice - closest condo west of the race site and very nice - on the beach - you can walk to the swim start! Z

In 2003 I stayed in a nice 1 bedroom condo at the Sunbird for around $85/night. It was a 5 minute walk from the swim start. I can’t imagine how much nicer the Boardwalk would have to be to charge double the rate.

I guess the difference is that the Boardwalk is shiny and new, and hasn’t been rented out to a decade+ of spring breakers. Whether that difference is worth double depends on the racer and how much time you’re going to spend in the unit.

Andy - If it is on Thomas Dr. it must be within 1-2 miles of the site. Z

Any contact details / web site for Sunbird? Thanks

I got that off the ironmanpcbeach.com site, which is wonderful.
