Ironman Florida 70.3 (Haines City) Advice Please

The race was two weeks before St. Anthony’s last year as well. So a lot of your analysis goes out the window. As for the run course difficulty compared to Muncie, according to this website, the Florida 70.3 run course finish times are about 10 minutes slower than Muncie. http://www.runtri.com/...astest-half.html?m=1

Parts of the run course for 2014 were under construction which meant that you were on a broken up sidewalk/dirt going up hills that were barely one person wide. This caused a good deal of congestion in lots of places on the course.

So yes I would say the 2014 was difficult but for reasons that as far as I’m aware won’t exist in 2015.

But yes it is a similar date to last year (possibly same weekend I forget?) so much of that other post really doesn’t mean much.

I feel stupid!

you should look at the Florida Toughman in March, cooler weather, http://www.toughmanflorida.com/
.

No need to. I just find everyone likes to claim all of the Florida races are easy. I have done the Florida 70.3 two years since it moved to Haines city, and I think the run is very difficult.

I’m doing Haines City for the first time this year. I’ve ridden around the Clermont area, not sure how similar Haines City is, but Clermont is FL hilly. I had hoped to be starting my traning block next week after a successful BQ run yesterday. It was freaking 80 degrees with 80-100% humidity so that didn’t work out. So more heavy running for another attempt in Feb with a lot of recovery riding and occasional swimming. Who needs more than 2 months of training anyway? I’ve done races around this time in Central Florida lakes and I’d be shocked if it weren’t wetsuit legal.

Like someone suggested I’m hoping to do Toughman FL as well in March. Never done it and should be nice to have a closed course.

I will be there…my training is pretty much easy base work until January 26th. This will be my first time racing it but have done something maybe comparable which is Try Charleston during the same time as this race last year. A very good and fun race. Using Florida and Raleigh as my races to try to get to Austria. Good luck to you.

Hi RJRANKIN83, I’m the Race Director for Toughman Florida. To be clear, the bike course isn’t closed to traffic. I believe the bike course for the New York Toughman is closed to traffic, however, the Florida event shares the road with cars.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi. When you talk “isn’t closed to traffic” what exactly did you mean? The road is totally open -car and bikes sharing the same lane - or there are a side to ride and another open to the cars? The first case is very dangerous (i never saw a Ironman Brand race like that), the second is more common.

Thanks!
Eduardo
