Ironman China timezone

anyone know what timezone it is? I checked their website and nothing obvious there.
The address for the host hotel is Qiongshan Avenue, East Riverside, Haikou 571100, China but google maps doesn’t show time zones, and ironman and ironman China web sites don’t say…

I figure its the same as Hong Kong, so thats UTC+8 which would make the start time 6pm Central on Saturday evening.

All of China is GMT +8 (even though the country itself spans many timezones)
.

Mark,

I don’t know where you’re located, but they’re exactly 12hrs ahead of NYC.

I literally just got off the phone w/ one of our pros who is racing (excuse me, *participating *in his 1st IM…he’s given me specific instructions that he is not ‘racing’!) & he said it’s been raining quite a bit & the forecast for Sunday is considerably cooler than '08.

Same time zone as HK

Use this worldclock if need be:

I reckon it is going to be another hot race…

Eastern time+12 hours! China is one massive time zone even though it spans >5000K and is pretty well the same size as the USA

Interestingly enough, India is one time zone (IST = Eastern+10:30) even though it is 3000 km wide and spans 30 degrees on longitude. The joke about IST is that it basically stands for everything happening late. In China everything happens with precision (I guess that is why they do hardware and manufacturing so well, whereas India is so good at software, which as we all know is typically late and over budget)
