Is anyone else doing both of these races? I was already registered for CDA when I won the lottery for Alcatraz, and really want to do both. They are 3 weeks apart, and the distances ~seem~ doable to me, i.e. it’s not like two ironmen (ironmans?).
I’ve run marathon 5 weeks before an ironman and been okay. Would love to hear from some others - good and bad experiences with putting two tough races close together.
I don’t see too much of a problem. I would think that 3 weeks out is enough time for a race of that length. Ideally you would be doing race-specific workouts that weekend, but hey, it’s Alcatraz! Be thankful you got in and have fun! If it were me, I probably wouldn’t taper much, if at all for Alcatraz. I’d stick with my IM plan until right before the race.
jaylew - thanks for the feedback - that’s pretty much where my head is - really, CDA is my “A” race, but i’m so fired up i made the alcatraz lottery - possibly a once-in-a-lifetime thing so i don’t want to miss it. plus, that one, i’m not going for time…goal is mere survival.
Well, I’m not a good person to ask since I think basically anything is possible.
I think you are going to do fine. Actually, I think participation in the first will only serve to improve your performance and enjoyment in the second. Basically, you’ll kick butt.
Both are awesome, super cool, epic races. You’re going to have a big slice of the triathlon history pie in one year. That’s killer! Good luck!
Thanks, Tom! I don’t know about kicking butt, but I do know it will be one hell of a month. Have a great time in Venezuela - sounds like a wonderful experience - triathlon’ing, diving, sunning in January…good stuff. Looking forward to a full report - maybe something to add to the calendar for next year.
