Got an email from Ironman Connect indicating that the “Ironman Bike Shop” will be the provider of assembly, tuning and other bike services at IMMOO this year. Last year it was Inside Out Sports which I heard was great.
Does anyone have any experience working with the “Ironman Bike Shop”? Have they provided services at other races?
I’m trying to decide if it is worth it or not.
<Here’s what the email said with a link to their service options>
For those athletes who are not utilizing Tri Bike Transport’s bike transportation service, the Ironman Bike Shop offers assembly and disassembly of bicycles that are shipped through FedEx, UPS or transported via air carrier. Once you’re in Madison, the Ironman Bike Shop offers full-service bike repair.
I have shipped my bike to yellow jersey bike shop in Madison the two years I have done IM Moo with great success. They assembled my bike perfectly, and boxed it and shipped it to me back home with no hassles. Website is http://www.yellowjersey.org , give them a call and they can take care of whatever you need.
I would go to Yellow Jersey, Chronometro, Machinery Row or one of the many others…or, just bring a 4,5,6mm and do it on your own in 10 minutes or less.
Also check out Machinery Row Bicycles, their shop is right next to the Terrace. They were a huge help when I found a crack in my wife’s bike frame the Thursday night before IMWI in 2007. Awesome service. http://www.machineryrowbicycles.com/
About the only parts I haven’t disassembled and dicked around with are the bottom bracket and the derailuers. I’m assuming that taking off (and reinstalling) my RD is real easy and idiot-proof.
I’m leaning the direction of rolling and smoking my own on this one. I have absolutely no trust whatsoever in shops when it comes to torquing carbon parts like seatpost binders, etc.
With a cardboard box from your LBS, or even better a “Madone” box…
All you take off is your pedals, bars, seat. You do not remove the rear der or even the rear wheel for that matter. So, all you should need is an allen and make sure you mark your seat post before you remove it.
