Ironman bike ever stopped for cross training?

The biking leg of the IM is definitely the most important part of the race. Given that my schedule doesn’t necessarily allow for long bike rides every week, is there any cross training that you all recommend that I can maybe do at the gym?

There’s nothing magical about this. Just ride a bike. If you can’t do long rides, do as many shorter rides as you can and do the long rides when you can. It’s your accumulated training stress that really matters. You don’t have to do 5+ hour long rides every week.

Many argue that riding one hour hard (Z4) is more valuable than the 4 hour Z2 ride anyway.

Ride when you can, if it is not that often, make sure you go so hard that you want to puke afterwards, then you will be fine.

This. Plus you don’t want to do too many long rides where the recovery time affects the rest of your training.

If I was training for IM, the only time I would go to the gym would be to use the pool.

Saw the other post right after I posted my comment.

Bicep Curls.

When your legs get tired you can just pedal with your arms.
