Can someone who has done Ironman Austria compare the bike course to IM Lake Placid and/or IM France in Nice? I’m thinking it’s similar to Lake Placid and not nearly as difficult as France. I’ve done Nice and Lake Placid and I’m doing Austria in 07 and would like to know what to expect on the bike.
it’s easier than both. Long gradual climbs, fast decents.
FWIW, I think they changed the course for 2007. I heard it used to be one of the fastest courses in the world. Now, I understand it’s more like Canada. They changed it from three loops to two to avoid congestion on the course but now it’s also significantly hillier.
I was looking at that one too but now I don’t know…
It was changed for 2006…from 3 to 2 loops.
Have not done the new, but the old 3-loop course was fast because of 2 steep uphills, and a long gradual downhill back to town.
Would guess the new 2-loop is a litthle slower, because you get the long downhill only twice…?
But comparing splits from 05 and 06, theres not much difference…
OK, I was confused. The Ironman website says 2006–previously, I was looking at the actual Austria site and it made it sound like it was just changing (and I’d been reading it after the 2006 race date).
Either way–new course. But, times are similar, huh? That’s good to know. Is there a elev profile comparing the two?

I think the change in the course is the loop from Velden and back. The old loop turned left in Velden…i think?
On the profile you can pretty much cut between Velden and Lind/Rosegg(2nd time) and ou have the old course.
