it’s official, now open for entry, race date Saturday April 9th, 2005
I’ll be signing up in the morning. For some reason the computers at work won’t let me access Active.com, never has.
Thanks for the update, I checked the site about a couple of hours ago and nothing was up. I can’t wait to see what the course is really going to look like.

It says that the course maps won’t be availiable untill the fall. Bummer. I wish that they would have that stuff all nailed down prior to the announcements. Oh well.
Rusty
Wonder how much that will cut into Ralph’s participation, that should be the week prior right?
How many Kona slots?
they are moving ralph’s earlier into the year if i remember correctly.
Any idea what the bike course is like?
the phx area isn’t that hilly. you can find some hills but nothing that will crush your nuts. I’m guessing it’ll be around 112 miles as well. Out where I live it’s always windy so that may be a factor as well.
Ralph’s 1/2 Ironman California: March 19, 2005
Ironman Arizona: April 9, 2005
They’re three weeks apart. Now I don’t know which one to do! I loved the experience at Ralph’s this year, and I have family in both locations. Decisions, decisions…
:: NEWS IN-DEPTH :: Ironman North America officials have released details of a press conference scheduled for 1:30pm in Tempe, Arizona to announce a new race, Ironman Arizona.
could this be the swim site accross from the stadium ? found this on the Tempe web site.
also, my computer map shows this waterway as river, then on this site is is damed on
both sides.
any clues ?

Yes, that is the swim spot. The bike course will have some hills. Highway 87 will be shut down for the race and that gets really nice farther north near Bush highway. It will be a pretty cool course I think.
Does anyone know if the course will be similar in any way to the Tempe Soma 1/2 in October?? Other than the swim venue.
The bike course are similar, but according the the Soma website, they’re not going onto highway 87. That’s the only difference. They are using all the same roads other than that according to the guys at red rock.
if they take the course out towards fountain hills, it will get a bit hilly. and going northeast out that direction is a gradual climb the entire way. i heard they were going to include 9 mile hill/dynamite as well as a couple other climbs in that area. nothing horribly steep, but rolling.
during a search of the city of tempe website, i came across this page of facts, with a brief note on the course.

Better sign up soon. I just heard the they have over 500 signed up today and it is now 1:30 PM EST! They will close at around 2,200. Z
That is sort of an “artist’s conception” of the Town Lake area of the future. Of all the buildings they show on the south bank, only one is in actual existance, the rest of the area is currently student/stadium parking. I notice the old mill is gone too.
FYI, Mission Palms hotel is shown as two concentric squares on the upper right, just south of the bluff. It is the best hotel in the area IMHO. Just off the picture to the west is a Residence Inn or something like that. Those are the only downtown Tempe hotels, but there are many others not too far away (near the university or airport). My house is shown, 2 buildings south of the Mission Palms :-).
Well here we go again…signing up 10 months in advance with no idea what the course is like
YEAH BABY!! Anyone out there from Tempe…? whats teh weather like out there that time of year…road condition of 87??..since i heard that migh tbe an option…I guess everythingi s speculation at this point. oh well…
2,200??? That really sounds excessive.
