Ironman Arizona (5)

I’ve heard a rumor that after 2008 IM Arizona the date for the even is changing to sometime in November for 2009.

Can anyone validate this rumor at all?

It’s the never ending “IMAZ is moving to November rumor.” Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound condescending. This rumor seems to keep rejuvenating itself every year since the inception of IMAZ. I don’t think anyone has a solid answer on that one.

ok…

I was just thinking that it’s going to affect what else I plan to do for the next year or two.

Again second source some folks who were at imcda there was some sort of an announcement and a statement that there will not be two imaz races in 2008 (april and nov) but 2009 will be nov… Again maybe not confirmed because I didn’t hear it.
Theres an other post out on slowtwitch I believe with the note form someone official that it won’t be 2008.

NOW FORWARD to Aug 6 and a post on slowtwitch search for
“And the next IMNA event is”

you will find it says imaz in nov then move to vegas to lake las vegas bike to lake mead
and back run 3 loops in that hilly nieghborhood there at lake las vegas(I guess the lake las vegas tri bike course will be the run.)
Still sounds like a lot of rumors though with nothing concrete…

So your guess is as good as mine…

It is not a rumor. There was a news conference when they announced the IMCDA contract was extended that IMCDA was going to be the first race of the season and IMAZ was going to move to the fall. I will post the link as soon as I find it.

After the press conference, Frazier said Coeur d’Alene should expect to become an even more popular race in the world of triathletes because it will become the first Ironman of the year in North America in 2008. The Ironman race in Arizona – which has traditionally been held in April – will move to November, pushing Coeur d’Alene’s fourth-Sunday-in-June spot to the top of the list.

Graham may have misspoken and meant 2009 but here is the link to the full story:

Will this affect Ironman Florida?

Will this affect Ironman Florida?
Ummmm, yeah… Like it will not exist anymore???

Sucks for locals. Harder to train for a November race (it’s still hot here into late September) than a March/April race.

Guess them’s the breaks.

Thanks for the info. I like the idea of a Nov. race. I’d much rather train in the summer (even in Arizona) than in the winter. I’m a cold weather wuss.

I don’t know for a fact, just my thoughts. But you’ll never know. Maybe they will move IMFL early in the season?
