Ironman Anti-Doping Email

For reference, I received the same email in the past 2 times for Ironman Races. Both times I was pulled at registration to give both blood and urine samples. Main issue is standing in front of the tester (sitting on the toilet seat) who is eye level with your junk while you try to pee into a cup. Guess I am bashful.

Did you expect to be tested at 9th?? As someone pointed out, they did 60 tests, which is a shit ton for an AG race. Some of the tests are pre race at check in days before, others after the finish. I would like to see the majority of those tests at check in, and save even a few more for random out of competition.

I got tested a bunch back in the day, even once at a marathon I was running for a long training run, but happened to get top 15 overall. It was a random test of course after they tested the podium. they just picked some odd placings to get a sample of regular folks…

I get that at race tests are a lot cheaper, but I think bang for the buck would be OOC targeted at podium folks and whatever tips they are getting.

So I’m curious, do they give an all clear report as after the test? If you were a doper, do they know before the race starts and the stop you from racing or just delete results afterwards? Any info they give you, like oops you might have cancer or should get this checked out?

According to the WADA Code, it is not mandatory to inform athletes of a negative result. The Anti-Doping Agency in Switzerland does this on its own initiative. However, this is not the case in many countries.
As soon as a positive result is obtained, the athlete is immediately provisionally suspended and the association is also informed.

Information about illnesses is provided to athletes in rare (serious) cases.

as for the dried blood test given that they are not that reliable I wonder what they actually do if there was a positive.
I would imagine they would take a blood and urine test, but iam not certain. as I cant really see how you could ban somebody on a dried blood test.
I actually have to read up on that.

DBS samples are very reliable. However, they cannot test/detect all substances. But certain substances can only be detected in urine.

Wow , so you have been tested twice in a IM event , but yet I’ve never met or even spoken to a person that’s ever been tested dispite being involved in over 60 IM over 22 years plus plenty of podiums
You must be doing something wrong in the eye of IM Corp or just unlucky
Maybe they are giving you a fore warning that if u get the email (which we have also never got ) u will be tested , so don’t mess up , as it will mess with our numbers lol
