Gotcha! You are right…when one testing body declares a doping violation, the same sanction should apply universally.
Her “mistake” was getting caught.
THIS! What an idiot.
exactly. Extremely unprofessional.
“My mistake was in not telling my physician that I
was subject to drug testing rules and in not checking with Ironman before I received the treatment.”
Good grief!
I read that statement with absolute disbelief.
With all due respect (and I am not sure if that applies), how can someone be that clueless?
WTC’s press release should have just covered the infraction, time frame, person and sanction and not given her a platform for her excuse, no matter how weak we view it to be.
please change the title of your thread to include the cheater’s name
.
Thomas,
I haven’t looked through the WTC pro bylaws/rules, but what happens when/if a Pro pops positive after the race, in regards to prize money? I know WTC claims to not payout till after testing results comes out, so does the prize money roll down to the lower rankings? If they did in fact pay out does she owe WTC money? What does the 5th, 6th,7th and possibly 7th,8th,9th if they paid that far down, get now that she has tested positive?
FWIW, this was covered by Lava on Tuesday when the ban was issued…
WTC usually doesn’t pay out for 4-8 weeks until all tests have cleared so I don’t think she would have got her money but I don’t really know for sure. I guess you could ask Uli how much her check was for Boulder and find out. The real question I would have is what happens to the money she won later on at races in August and September that were not WTC races.
What a fucknozzle!
She took home $1000.00 from the Pigman LC race…Aug 18th. Two weeks after she tested positive in Boulder.
I hope there is some legal recourse for John Snitko (RD) to recover that money.
Juiced to the gills for Pigman-
Just awesome.
Where’s Tygart on this?
He is too busy doing his worldwide attention whoring tour. Be glad Tygart is not on the job. Otherwise she would probably get a couple week suspension timed to take place during the off-season.
I like how you simultaneously complain about tygart not going after the bigger systemic problem, AND complain about him giving the garmin guys soft penalties, so that he could go after the bigger systemic problem.
I mean I can totally get inside the head of someone complaining about ONE of those two things, at one time. I think both are reasonable positions.
But both at the same time, makes no sense =)

Yeah, but she didn’t mean to. And Lance…
I will start with the disclaimer that Morgan is a friend of mine and I’ve known her for several years. I remember the anguish she felt when she was first informed and in my opinion it was not anguish at “being caught.” I know a little more about the situation and hopefully she won’t be too embarrassed with me for sharing it with you.
At 31 she was basically told by her doctor (who DID know she was a professional) that she was menopausal. She was also told she had some bone health issues and what she described as “pelvic floor dysfunction.” Imagine being told you’re menopausal at the age of 31, let alone the other things.
The doctor regulated a bunch of her hormones to deal with this, not just testosterone (which I was told was almost non-existent before the ONE treatment). She had one treatment (with the testosterone in pellet form) which brought her hormone levels to normal for her age.
And that is my understanding of the situation. The doctor brought her hormones to normal levels, not “performance enhancing” levels.
Did she screw up? Yes. She should have gone and gotten a TUE. She didn’t and now she is paying the consequences: a 2 year suspension. And its my understanding she has paid back any prize money awarded.
I remember when she told me. It was right before a race here in the St. Louis area (in my home town) and I was really excited to see her. She was crestfallen and humble about it and there were no excuses. She knows she made a mistake, and its a mistake she won’t make again.
And the best part is that this is the United States of America-where you can make a mistake, accept and abide by the consequences, receive forgiveness and then get back to doing what you love!
Your story would sound better if it would have been written by someone that has been on this forum for longer than a day.
Puh-lease. Hormonal therapy as an excuse for cheating is a HUGE topic in triathlon these days. There is no way she did not knowingly take a banned performance enhancing substance. It is not her doctor’s responsibility to tell her if her treatment is banned or not as claimed in that press release, it is hers to look it up (As if she did not already know testosterone was banned). As for being forgiven for making a mistake, she first needs to admit to the mistake she made before she can be forgiven for it. Blaming her doctor and saying she had no idea she was taking a banned substance is chicken-shit.
I agree. Though I’ve been a reader at slow-twitch since I got into triathlon a few years ago, it was in response to seeing the thread that prompted me to joining the forums. As a chubby & slow Clydesdale I was more into the WOW factor of the news and “here’s what’s NEW” stuff on the main site than the forums.
Was this not Moats excuse also?

Tygart did not give out Mickey Mouse suspensions to go after systemic doping. He gave them out to get his and his agency’s names in the news. He accomplished nothing other than taking down one rider who had retired from cycling. He has information about the teams and staff of T-Mobile, Liberty Seguros, CSC, Rabobank, Faso Bartolo, Saturn, Phonak, Gerolsteiner, and others . He could have exposed systemic and endemic doping in cycling. Instead he made up a fantasy of riders being forced to dope by the Sauron of the peloton and now spends his time touring the world, pretending he made a difference.
Probably but I do not know. But no one is forgiving him any time soon.
She CANNOT get a TUE for Testosterone. WOMEN ARE FORBIDDEN TO TAKE IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
USADA does not even offer you a form to fill out. It clearly states on this on their website.
As I found out the only options you have are to correct your screwed up female hormones which worked in my case, OR NOT RACE WHILE TAKING THE TESTOSTERONE!
Somehow we’ve gone two pages without identifying this person by name, unless you want to download a pdf. To clear things up:
**Morgan Chaffin, professional triathlete, is a convicted cheater and doper. ** She claims an M.S. in exercise physiology and extensive lab experience with blood testing, yet somehow also claims she didn’t know taking testosterone was against the rules of her sport.
And the best part is that this is the United States of America-where you can make a mistake, accept and abide by the consequences, receive forgiveness and then get back to doing what you love!
Unless your name is Lance is of course.

I just find these excuses from anyone, let alone a “pro”, a joke! When my doctor said my Testosterone was low and he recommended that he give me replacement stuff, I said I cannot since
it is against the race rules if I still wanted to race. Racing is not a right.
They always throw the doctor under the bus.
